Hey guys...getting ready to take a road trip back to Tahoe and noticed some "vital fluid" drips on the garage floor. Looking under the truck, and I don't see a source, but the coupling in the attached picture (I think part of my aux fuel tank - located just above rear pinion) was "wet". Fluid did not smell like gear oil...wondering if it's still driveable or should it be put on a rack first? Tried to wipe off the area and go for a short drive, and no new drips. Thoughts? Suggestions?

A rear pinion seal (I think that’s the right one) leak would spray oil all around the rear undercarriage like that. I know you said it doesn’t smell like gear oil, though…

I assume it doesn’t smell like fuel?

Pinion is bone dry…seal was replaced by Jason (aka Trail Tailor) about 18months ago due to improper installation when ARB&gears were added.

I did not smell fuel - was concerned it might be since I believe the connector is part of fuel system (Jason‘s on vacation and still responded to my text/pict, saying he thought it was fuel return line).

I tightened the clamp in the picture, wiped everything down, and took it out for 4-5 miles. Still dry. Cant risk a problem/breakdown - hauling my pups and with the current heat…

Have a way to check for codes? Fuel or evap leaks should have pending codes already. It’d be worth checking the filler neck area since it’s pretty easy to access. Boiling gas may have leaked out and traveled downhill?

Not sure what else to check beyond the tightening you’ve already done. Maybe check the rear diff breather?

Thanks…was kinda thinking the aux tank even though it didn’t have a fuel smell as the truck baked in the 110+ Redding heat yesterday afternoon.

not sure if Carista shows codes, but will give it a try

Ran a diagnostic via OBD scanner (carista) and no current error codes.

Back to the drawing board…
