Hello ALl fellow trailer builders. I had bought this from a army surplus dealer in Ohio. Sandblated the trailer and lined the bed.

I really enjoy all the post and photo's showing the builds. I hope to get more done as time come along.

It a military 416 have new bearings, and tires and started a paint job on the fenders , whole trailer has been primed. Thinking of doing a tailgate. Have installed a water tank too.

Any comments would be welcomed

Nice little hauler. What are your future plans? hot water system? roof top tent?
racks? slide outs? kitchen? How many gallons is the water tank and where did you get it it?

Looks like a solid base for a build.

Think very carefully before you cut the tailgate. It probably doesn't matter, given your approach so far, but that will hurt any collector value in a solid trailer like yours. More importantly, it will weaken the bed, even if well-designed. If there are any rust issues hiding, that new flexibility will aggravate them.

Of course, I'm over 6 feet tall, so reaching over is no big deal for me, even on 33" tires. That makes a difference in how you'll use it, so it may be worth the trouble to do the tailgate. Just remember that it's the sort of mod that's hard to undo.

I would like a roof top tent, I have a portable hot water shower already. I would like to put a awning on it to give a small kitchen area and a storage box on front. The water tank came from a rv camper supply store. I holds about 20 gallons of water, right now I have a small pump, on it. Most of the time I let gravity feed the water.

Thanks greentruck, I think I really dont want to cut the tailgate, I have seen all the hard work to reinforce the bed when you cut the tailgate out. I tall enough to reach over the side and get all of my gear out. A pull out kitchen would be nice and roof top tent too

I've seen some very nice pull-out kitchens done. What's cool is that this can be done without losing the structural integrity of the bed.

Another dodge on the tailgate issue is to not make a full tailgate. Instead, leave a bar across the top that is permanently welded in place. That way you have a door for access with a RTT in place, for instance, where you still have reach through access into the bed.

Does the gravity feed the hot water heater with enough pressure?

Since the taillights are plastic and in a vulnerable position, why not put a step or running board at the corners of the trailer that also attach to the fenders? This would provide protection for the lights and you can step up to get access into the trailer. I've seen these done neatly here with angle iron and heavy expanded mesh steel. Maybe someone will post a pic of theirs. I recall a nice white trailer with decently done steps but remember who it belonged to.

BTW, who makes that 5-gal water can? None of the plastic ones I've found locally will fit a jerry can holder.

The 5 gallon water can came from a company in virginia called 4x4 connections, it actually used for gasoline.

Hello Mark the hot shower set up I have is portable from cabelas it pumps water out of a bucket. If I remember it is zodi hot water shower

I went with a pair of GROTE tail lights off a stake body truck.
They came with the mounting brackets and pig tails.
They are larger than most trailer tail lights and are bright.

I wanted something big and brite so the distracted prius drivers don't drive under the trailer.

I bought them on ebay.

The business is located in Lancaster Ohio business name is GI depot
I dont think they deal in the trailers or military equipment anymore, just clothing and camping gear.
I bought the trailer back in 1997 when he had about 3 trailers sitting outside of the business.
Ive stopped by a few time and I never see anymore equipment
