A cautionary tale:
My windshield, with night vision and rain detection, was hit dead center. The crack spread from what could have been a repair in the first 10-12 hours to a replacement with a $250.00 deductable. By the time I got it to the glass shop the crack ran horizontally over 12 inches long.
I was told by the glass shop that they could get a new replacement, after market, the same same day. I asked all the questions I learned from this site. Do you know how to put glass in the 100 series? Is it night vision glass? Do you use rivets? Do you replace the gasket? Is there any difference in glass thickness? Do you know how to work with the rain sensor? Have you replaced glass in a LX470 before? During our talk I brought up these questions several times looking for a affirmative answers which I got although I didn't feel the guy had his heart in it.... Almost felt like he was blowing me off like he was the expert and I shouldn't even be asking these types questions.
Long story short. The new replacement has no night vision, the rain sensor isn't working correctly and a wind noise is very noticeable from the top portion of the glass.
My insurance company, Allstate, has stepped up to the plate and I get Lexus OEM glass installed, by a Lexus dealer certified shop, on Wednesday.
