Finally got a little time to get the tub off the cruiser and find out what i was really working with. Overall I am very pleased with the condition of the frame and tub, there is very little rust. The only thing that has started to bug me are some of the mods....350 engine conversion, power steering conversion, battery tray.... anyways all the mods seem half ass. they work but i don't think a lot of thought was put into them so I think I may grind them all off and start over. Had fun pulling the tub, I am working in a auto hobby shop on a Navy base so when some of the guys that run the place noticed we were pulling the tub they hurried over and offered up the fork lift to pull it off, funny how we will use any opportunity to play with our toys. so a few pics of my progress slow but at least progress. Thanks to a fellow mud member in the local area, he has made this tear down and build much easier. As I have mentioned in the past am a newbie building this 40 so any comments or advise welcomed.View attachment 274546

shackle reversal....hmm

so another thing I have noticed as I look for my new suspension is the current SR appears to be welded in backwards. I have compared my SR to the MAN A FRE SR kit, they look like the same hanger but mine is installed with the angle toward the rear and the man a fre kit shows the angle toward the front. pic included mine then the man a fre kit. any thoughts? Hey bud I like the project! Looks great! Now is the time to repair all those half a$$ mods the PO made!! The shackle reversal kit is on back wards and should be switched around. On the powder coat VS por 15 I would use por 15. If you ever scratch the frame, you can easily repaint with the por 15. good luck!! Mark

so this has become an obsession, I couldn't sleep because of the cruiser. I have decided to cut off all previous mods put on by PO and start over. I will be backing up the 383 stroker with a nv4500 and trying to find a split t case to boot. I am also going to have to cut off the SR hangers and start over, more than I had anticipated, but in the end it will all be right. will do some more work on wed, Ill take pics of the current mods... pretty bad, have been checking out all the conversion kits on AA any on have another good site for adapters?
