Well here's some pics of the new 80!!

It cleaned up really nice. Its amazing what you can do in a few hours with some basic tools. Currently the lockers will not engage. The CDL locks but no lights on the dash. I'm going to follow the advice here and see if I can figure it out. Also, the driver's side wheel bearing has some play in it (12 and 6 position check). Probably going to rebuild the front end just to be safe. Other than that its a pretty solid truck.

Thanks to all those who replied when I was searching!!

CE!?
good deal!
two-tone wheels.... trim pieces... the last 80's that rolled of the line destined for USA...

Good luck on the lockers! I need to check mine out before swapping the axles.

Sent usin the "new" app.

Eric I have a truly bad bumper I would be willing to sell you.
The thing is horrendous you could use it as a battling ram.

Are those Dents in the rear quarter see?!!

She's has to be used but not completely ragged out. Gotta know she can go the distance..

Have you figured out the solution to the CDL issue?

I live in Cullman too....

Not yet. I’ve done a few things but haven’t figured it out.

Here’s where I am:

1) The CDL locks when shifting into 4L. I can hear the click in driver kick panel, on top of the T/Case, and tires bind when driving around.

2) No lights illuminate on the dash (ABS or Center Lock Icon) when going into 4L….and of course the red diff lights just flash.

3) I did the paper clip test on the CDL switch harness (top of the T/Case) and no lights came on.

4) I checked voltage in the truck harness and there is none.

5) I installed CDL switch (no pin mod) and the center will lock in 4H but will absolutely not unlock with the hazard switch. I re-installed the clip that came in the factory harness and CDL unlocked immediately. It also went back to locking / unlocking when shifting in and out of 4L.

My next step is to figure out why there is no power coming from the truck wire harness at the T/Case CDL switch. Both 10A and 30A fuses are good. I need to buy a manual with a wiring schematic and trace it back from the switch.

Any ideas?

I’ve searched multiple threads but it seems no one has experienced my exact problems. Seems most people can’t get the CDL to lock but mine definitely does.

I don't have any ideas.... I looked at that truck and was concerned about the CDL issue / Lockers. I was thinking about buying that truck but I made an offer that discounted the issues with the CDL/Locker and the owner did not see it the same way so...I was out. I would have taken the same approach as you have and tried to figure it out.

I've never owned an 80 so anything I pickup about them is through the 80 forum here (reading around) or by talking with friends. If were me I would buy a Toyota shop manual, not a Chilton or other aftermarket brand but a real toyota shop manual and start from there. I did look into the price of the CDL actuator and front and rear locker actuators....not cheap, but that may not be the issue on the CDL...I just don't know.

I don't have any magic answers as I just have never owned one or worked on one. I've read where if the trucks have not been used (CDL or lockers) it can be hell to get them back in service. That truck looked to me like it had not been offroad much at all.

I wanted to say that if you want to go ride with us you are welcome to tag along... both whenever teh AL guys go and also I'm a member of a TN based club and we go on rides every few months. Locations are normally near Jasper, TN area and lately near Knoxville, TN.

If you keep the truck and want to do some trails....you need to get some sliders right up front and potentially the transfer skid plate...and be willing to accept scratches and minor dents along the way. Suspension mods and larger tires too.

Most of the TN based rides are camping deals where we ride all day, camp out, ride the next day or so and then pack up and go home. Sometimes we may go 2 or 3 days, sometimes is in a OHV park setup and sometimes its just in a large tract timber setting. I'm not a big camper but I've learned to make do and over time have acquired the basic supplies to make it work.

Wanted to let you know about it... its a pretty good drive to Jasper TN from here... approx 2.5 hours. But we have a good crew of folks both here and TN and the bottom line is that people help each other and we never leave anyone stranded.

No problem - I'll figure out the locker issue eventually. When I first looked at the truck the CDL didn't lock but that's working now so I guess I'm one step further!!

Yeah, I would love to tag along on some trail rides. Local ones would be great so I can bring my 4yr old. She calls the Land Crusier the Land Crusher!!
