Yup:rolleyes:
A dollop of elbow grease being applied...between the rain drops. This will take a while with all the additional "while you're there's"!
All I can say is, "the hoses, my gosh, all the hoses!"

You're a brave man. looking good.

I've been wanting to tackle this job for some time. Didn't realize(or research) how deep it was going to be. Still, there's an opportuity here to fix and/or replace those parts that would do me ill if they failed. I have a bannana or two ability but the time to do it at my own pace is the key. If I come to a problem area I'm not sure or comfortable with, I just drink on it for a while.
I'm no mechanic...I just play one in real life. :hmm::bang:

Oh...

What all are you doing Russ? :hmm:

The valve cover gasket and tube seals were the original target but..."while I'm there", turns out to include but not limited to cleaning the throttle body and replacing as many coolant hoses I can. The PHH was replaced (let a shop tackle that one) a few years ago when it failed but all the hoses around the heater valve are original.
The EGR will need some attention too. Can of worms...maybe. I've been lucky so far and this will be a good opportunity to catch up on some differed maintenance.
As much as I'd like to be out wheelin', I can afford to have the rig down for a while in prep for summer, ie. Mcgrew.
With the valve cover off and all things above it's just too good an opportunity to wade in elbow deep and 'fix this sukka'!
Front axle service is also on the schedule though once the engine compartment is 'fixed up' I'll probably do a axle service on Ernie(the 91) as it's need to go on the chopping block so we can get the handbrake a higher MPG car or such.
Plenty to do though it's been raining and now I'm home sick with someones cold they gave me. All told, 6 called in sick at work today. Yikes.
Onward...

Don't forget the PCV valve and hoses while you are in there... And the intake tube (between the air cleaner and throttle body). It's also a convenent time to do plugs and wires and fuel filter...

And gas. Don't forgot to put gas in the gas tank. Yep, that's all.

Right-O. I'm hoping the PCV valve is my 'oil in the intake' problem. I doubt it's OEM but I'm going to use a real Toyota PCV this time. Plugs yes and the wires. I had to pull pretty hard on the hard plastic thingy that goes down to the plugs. They were stubborn.
Not quite sure what you mean by the "intake tube". I'm sick today and my brain is quite foggy.

The large plastic line that connects the air box to the throttle body. The one that feeds clean air into the motor. Apparently it has a propensity to crack in the ridges near the throttle body and allow unmetered air into the motor. Since this leak is between the mass air flow or map sensor and throttle body it affects the motors performance.

(thank you Tyler)

Yeah, what he said... They usually crack in a place that you can't see it. I was able to seal mine up with duct tape on the trail but it took me forever to figure out what was going on. They aren't cheap but if you pulled it off, chances are you cracked it.

CDan and a couple other vendors give a pretty hefty discount on them. I think they were are around $135 retail and from discounters they are closer to $80. I haven't look in a awhile though.

I'll be sure to check it out if I can ever get over this dang head/body cold. Headache and no energy sucks. I'd rather be at work.

It looks quite a bit different than my 3FE.

I actually made it outside today though every joint in my body and my diaphragm hurt like the devil. The cough won't quite but at least the constant headache is gone.
I grabbed the throttle body and the air intake tube(the big one) to fiddle with but only got as far as the pick nick table. Thought I'd get to them later in the day but everything hurt too much to even try. I did flex the tube some and on a cursory examination didn't find any defects...so far.
Did I mention it was 60 degrees and sunny skies today? A nice waste of, soon to be, 4 days. Guess I should be thankful I don't have the flu.
