FJ62 axle, 1988, 1989, and some rare 1990 models...

A FJ60 axle would work but it doesn't have the truss and some other small things that a FJ62 has (besides the gearing difference).

On a 60 series I would just use a 80 series axle and it would be pretty easy to do. Just use the upper Ballistic Fab brackets and some Ford shock towers and you would be good to go...
 
I was pretty impressed with the stock wheeling ability of 80 series and especially how they performed at high speed off road on rutty & washboarded roads, and then second with ease of installation versus doing a 3 link, figuring out locations and then having to do the calculator etc. Versus something that I knew would just 'work.' Also there is only 10" of travel, 4-5" up and 6" droop and the radius arms will be capable of that I think...

That said I'm not sure but if I were to do it again I might just go 3 link as you mentioned for better flex. But I'm not 100% sure it would handle as well on the road honestly...

That makes sense. Although I do respect the wheeling ability of my 80, I find that the radius arm setup is the weak link in the suspension. I find the rear 4+1 setup to be very compliant, and flexes quite admirably. The front however I think is too stiff and limits the capability of the truck sometimes. In my future I see going 3+1 on the front to remedy. I just came across you're thread and thought I'd ask!

As far as handling on the road, I'm not sure if it would be worse... I'd say properly setup it should be just fine.

And ease of installtion, you're dead on. MUCH easier setup and install than a 3link!
 
I wouldn't know but it took me a long time to get all the angles measured, the axle placed in the right spot etc etc.. So this is why I'm thinking I could have probably linked it pretty easily assuming all my calculations were done...
