Well after looking at the prices and designs of the few manufacturers of slider for the LC I decided I would go ahead and attempt to build some of my own.

I picked up 20 feet of 1/4" 2x3 rectangle tube, 20 feet of 3/16" 1x2 channel, and 6 feet of 1/4" x 3" strap.

Total: 126$

Here is the main slider body...mother to cut.

68" I believe...

Check out my "pro" welds...

All boxed in.

All welded and ready to go on...

Here it is on the truck.

This is the truck lifted up by the slider with both driver side tires off the ground...

This shows the amount of clearance with it supporting the weight of half the truck.

Now I really didnt get to take any pictures of building the passenger side...but here they are already on.

Here it is painted. I am still waiting to add my kick outs to the slider. They are going to be 1.75" .120 wall. Should be done in the next week or so.

Hope you enjoyed. BTW. I did try them out today and they worked quite well.

A few more pics...one showing the cat guard at work...

Looks good!

This got me inspired!!!:bounce::bounce2:

Thanks guys. For $126 and maybe 15 hours of my time, just a little here and there, it was definately better than spending 900$ for the exact same thing. Next will be to build a skid plate and front and rear bumpers.

Do you have measurements and plans for these? I'm looking to have some built soon.

well done - I like the cat protection. looks stout~

Maybe I missed it, will you be painting/powdercoat/Line-x them?

So nice.

Thanks alot guys.

Plans not really. I listed the amount of metal I bought, and I welded them straight to the frame as I don't plan to take them off. I just rattle canned them black with some cheap .99$ a can paint from Wal-Mart to make for quick touch ups.

Basically I just made the slider body (68") and set it on jackstands and did some measurements to make sure it was square and where i wanted it. Then I cut some 3"x 1/4" strap 6 inches long. I took my channel and measured from the frame to the slider and cut it about an inch longer. Then I cut them at a 15 degree angle if I remember correctly. then I butted it up to the slider and laid it across the bottom of the frame. Then I drew a line on my metal and cut it to that mark minus 1/4" for the plate. Then tacked it to the plate. Slid it in place and tacked it to the frame and slider. Did this for the 3 mounts on the driver side. The passenger side was a little more tricky. I was going to use the 4 holes behind the cat to make it semi removable but since I was to be using the MAF caster brackets, I was unsure whether they would interfere or not so I did it a little different.

I measured from the passenger trailing arm mount to the slider (after I placed the slider where I wanted it.) Then I cut a piece about 3/4" longer. I cut 2 slits in the piece so I could bend it to clear the exahust. Then I did the same thing as the other side for my rear brackets. The one directly behind the cat, I cut at a sharp angle more or less as just a place to mount the skid for the cat and not so much as support for the slider. Then I get a piece 25" to go under the cat. With 2 slits in it to bend it to fit around the cat and some grinding ( as I could only make 45 degree cuts with my chop saw and that wasn't near sharp enough of an angler) it all fell in place. Tacked everything together, then broke the tacks on the frame and pulled it off and welded it all up.

Now the only thing you really cant see in the pics is the help support the brackets and prevent them from bending I basically just cut another piece of channel with the exact same dimenions but backwards and I laid them inside of the other pieces of channel and then welded them. That added all the strength I think it will need. I have since used the lift to pick the entire truck up only using the slider and they deflected only 1/8" to 1/4" while still staying off the rockers. I wanted them to be able to give just a little bit. I also jacked up the passenger side with just the cat guard and the slider only moved 1/4" . I am happy with them. Just need to find someone around my area that will bend me some tube for the kick outs. :( Haven't been able to find anyone that could do it.

If ya'll want any other pics I will take them after work.

Thank,

D

Why is that? 0.o

I could then somehow bribe you to help me do mine.

Lol. It took some time but was easy enough. I only had a 220 Miller MIG welder with gas, a 14" chop saw, a hand grinder, a bench grinder, measuring tape, square, and a piece of soap stone. Not many materials. Oh and I had a 2 post lift and several jack stands. That made it a little easier. But i made the driver side while it was sitting on the ground. Did passenger side while it was on the lift about 6 ft. off the ground with some jackstands supporting the slider.

I am by no means a fabricator. I wish I was, but I am not. Just had some free time and a little extra money and went after it. The only thing I had to benefit me is I was a welder for about 2 years. (built metal buildings) Not a great one. But one none the less.
