Well it wasn't my birthday, and it is too early to be Christmas, but I got home yesterday afternoon after work and found two huge boxes on my doorstep. Inside each box was a shiny brand new fender for the 62. Her logic was that she wanted to surprise me since I have busted my butt the last two months working on it evenings and weekends, so she said the exterior should match the work I've done to the interior and under the hood. So, my rig is going to get a new face lift this week and should be back on the road very soon.

Thanks baby, you're the greatest!

That would be the plan. Mechanically she is street worthy right now. Still need to get the seal between the AT & the transfer case done, before I do any offroading. I have the parts, just need to do it.

That things a major PIA. All I can say is BE CAREFUL if you're pulling the tcase w/ the trans still in the truck. Personally I would recommend pulling the tranny and Tcase out and doing the seal that way. The tcase needs to be split in order to do that seal. Do you have a new Tcase seal also?

Thanks for the tip BMAN! I was planning on just dropping the case. At this point, I'm half tempted to let my buddy who owns a tranny shop out here on the westside do it for me. If it wasn't a pride thing of doing my own wrenching to make sure it is done right, it would have already been there. I'm burned after two months straight of wrenching and ordering parts in as needed. The PO of this truck needs his ass kicked! I have never seen so many things done so half hearted to either save time or money, as the things I have seen over the past few weeks. I would like a weekend to just kick it and drink some cervezas.

Hey, nothing wrong with pride. It's the main reason my 60 has taken every bit of 3 years to get going. I prefer to work on my own, and do it alone. That said. As I look back there's alot that I should have payed someone else to do. If you've got the scratch and he's reasonable AND you trust him to do it right. Pay him to do it. And pay him an extra $20 to let you watch and learn.

I do trust him and money with him would not be an issue. We've been very good friends since the 7th grade, so that's been around 30 years or so. We have stood up for each other at the alter, even though his marriage lasted and if I would have listened to him in the first place and not gone through with mine I would have saved myself a divorce. But I have two awesome kids out of it and they mean the world to me. I remember when his dad started the business and how we used to hang out there over the weekends and summers.

I don't know, I just feel that if I went that route I would be selling out, but I am also looking at the time factor and how quickly he could have it done as well. It would take me the better part of a weekend vs. an afternoon for him.
