My dog is an egg sucker

I started catching him last fall. One day I called him, and he did not want to come. WTF So I yelled at him to come now. When he got close I saw that he had an unbroken egg in his mouth. Then I started watching the chicken coop, and sure enough he was taking eggs.

Ok I raised the boxes the chickens lay in, and tried to make it more difficult to get in the hen house.

Then a couple weeks ago my wife and I caught him with two unbroken eggs. We took the eggs from him, and he ran off and vomited a big pile of yellow goo.

Lets be clear he is a smart dog, and knows he is wrong. Now he is so freaked that I will yell at him when he is guility, that he vomits eggs when I walk past him. Talk about feeling guilty. He feels guilty for stealing eggs, and I feel guilty for yelling at him.

Ok here is where I need mud help. Should I say fxxx it and let him have his little crack habbit, because I dont think a few eggs a week will hurt him. Or should I have the son of a bitch neutered again just to show him who is boss.

Just to be clear I let the chickens out every afternoon, just to eat ticks and grubs. This keeps the ticks at bay and cuts feed costs. I can take more steps to detour him, but will never be able to totaly stop him.

Do you have plenty of eggs?

We get at least a half dozen a day from ours so we will usually give the dogs one. It helps their coat.

However, my chickens are in a large pen so the dogs don't have access. Not sure how I would feel about them stealing the eggs.

I would stop yelling at him just for the fact that the thought of egg vomit on my shoe makes me want to vomit.

18 chickens provide about 8-12 eggs per day. That is more then enough for my family, with extras to share with friends.

I say let the 4-legged pooch have his share. as said earlier, good for the coat; just got to make sure he doesn't get too fat from all the eggs.

It's not the eating that's the problem, it's the stealing. I know that look in a dog's face when he is caught.

You are supposed to be the alpha dog. Why not make a ritual of feeding him an egg or two yourself on a daily basis? Let him know who his provider is. Let him know that he's not supposed to help himself.

Lol. I can picture the dog now. Got that "oh s***" look on it's face when you saw him with the eggs.

You need to train him to bring all of the eggs and put them on the porch. Then you can feed him one.
