We've been wrestling with some tough times lately with our 10 year old german shepherd. His health has slowly declined over the past few years with a bout with cancer and muscle wasting in his hind legs.

I only went on a few dates before my then girlfriend (later wife) got him as a puppy and I've known him ever since. He taught me so much and he will always be the smartest friend that I will ever have. He knew words such as "Petsmart", "get that squirrel", and "Where's Christy?" (my wife) and on and on....his vocabulary was amazing. I don't know if he was smarter than a 5th grader, but he was a smart one.

we have two other dogs at home and no kids, so these are our babies. Bismarck went to work with me everyday for the past 3 years and recently passed away at work :(

Bismarck will be greatly missed, many of my clients that came to my office have been asking about him...he loved them all, especially barking at the UPS guy :grinpimp: (they had a great friendship)

thanks for letting me ramble...another friend is heading up to meet up with other Mudders best friends..

here's to you Bismarck

My condolences, man. I lost my Shepherd to cancer when she was 7. What a great dog. She used to chase escaped cows out of my yard on a regular basis. I miss her to this day.

It really is a bad "MUD" day for dogs!

Sorry for the loss, try to enjoy the memories...

sorry for your loss.

So sorry to hear. I lost my German Shepherd last July after a prolonged fight with cancer. I still miss my friend. Remember that it only hurts so badly because you care so much. He was fortunate to have someone that took him with so many places and probably spent more time with you in the last year than most dogs spend with their owners in their entire life.

 to Bismarck!

Bismarck was clearly loved and he knew it. :frown:

 sorry dude..... beautiful pup you had there.

My condolences on your loss. I was there recently myself and know how hard it is. :frown:

Tough time for the pup world. Sorry to hear about your loss.

I had a great Shepard named Bismarck... passed away 13 yrs ago and I still remember her like it was yesterday. That's the beauty of dogs, they live forever in your memories.

Just put Sierra, my wolf/shepard mix, down 4 wks ago after 13 great years... very painful and the worst was watching my 11yr old daughter learn about death for the first time. But, she'll live in all our memories forever too!!!
