I’ve got both lock cylinders out of the 74, was going to get keys made. Not looking forward to the re-install.
BTW, for those of you who know (sorry, hijacking the thread), are there 3 different keys (ignition, doors, tailgate keyswitch) on a 55? Or is the tailgate keyswitch keyed like the ignition or doors?

Keyway seems different on all three.

(yes, some of you have a lock on the fuel door as well. I’m not blessed with that on this pig.)

When I asked this same question the consensus of the group was two from the factory. Ignition separate from doors (all doors including fuel and rear window).

Edit: And this is how mine came.

OK. Thanks. Good to know. I’ll pull the keyswitch and make sure the new keys fit all three.

wasn’t someone here a locksmith?

ToyotaMatt; I would have used the @ but he might entertain us with two pages of ads in the middle of your thread. Seems capable though.

yeah, I’ve been talking with Matt. He though there would be a key code on the door locks, which is why I pulled them.

Now I guess I’m gonna pull the tailgate keyswitch and send it all to him to have keys cut. Means getting the truck out of the weather though, and can’t move it wile the ignition lock is out. (Well, I could, but...)

Maybe have to pull the ignition key too, IDK.

Geeze step away from a thread for like a day and someone finds the key to a rabbit hole ;)

For my '76, there are three keys, door, ignition and gas. Re the key codes, on my son's 86 we had to replace the keys and brought the cylinder to toyota, neither of us could see the code printed on the side. Called a mobile blacksmith who came over and somehow he managed to pick out a 4 digit code off the cylinder - I just checked my pig cylinder, no oxidation on it and I can't see a code - but I am old and couldn't see the first one either.

In other news, here is what could be the worst dash repair I have seen to date, too bad I can't blame the PO...

My pig has 1 key. Because in the the 8 years I've had it I've never used the door, fuel or tailgate. Didn't come with them.

Speaking of theft, I was looking at emergency brake solutions and stumbled on an electric emergency brake controller by e-stopp.. seems like you can hide the button and it acts as another layer of theft prevention. Little pricey for me right now, I'll probably grab a 60 series pull, but perhaps down the road

I have power locks and remote entry. So far I am slightly screwed if the battery dies or lock malfunction.

As a kid i once got locked out of my car, tow truck guy had a cool tool to jimmy the locks. I paid close attention and later told my dad I was going to make one just in case for the next time and wire it under the car - my dad said why not just put a key there???:bang:
Or, if you are all electronic, a sealed positive terminal where its accessible?

The j70 rear springs arrived today (finally) 10 leaves! Thoughts on which ones to pull? Thinking 1, 3 and 4 from the bottom and see how it goes. Truck won't have a lot of rear weight most of the time beyond the 35" tire swing bumper.

Really? These are the HD pickup truck springs, aside from a ridged road ride I wouldn't think I would get any compression for wheeling(?) Or do you think they will act more like a progressive spring - soft on top and harder as they flatten out? I can see that that makes some sense as the uber thick springs are almost flat.
