i have changed the fuel filter, check every little hose and i still can not figure out why my 62 keeps dieing once i try to go, it idles fine, but once i press on the gas to go it just shudders and dies. Now when i put it in R and go backwards its fine, fast, slow or just idleing its fine. has anyone has this problem or give me an idea what to check next?

Thanks Grady

Have you checked your TPS, is your timing set correctly?

could be the fuel pressure regulator or pulsation dampner. it is somewhat like hard start while hot problem.

Transmission "shudder" (low on ATF, should just rev high if it is low) or strugling engine "shudder"(misfire or lack of fuel)?

does it have a Cad. Converter? This sounds like what was wrong with my dad's 89 camry. If it is still on there it could be stopped up.

Might try the 3FE board over at yahoo. Those guys are really helpful.

no i can rev it in park or N and it will go in R

nope it does change idle, i think its the tranny so tomorrow its getting towed there

Check the engine when you put it in drive and rev it. Does the engine jump in the mounts?

I can't remember. Does a 3FE have a Mass Air Flow? If so, then a bad air intake hose, loose hose clamps and/or bad motor mounts can cause it to stumble or die on accel in drive but not in park.

i think it does. #36 on the 3FE diagram.

this part will kill an engine if not working properly. to test it, stick something, like your finger, inside of it. there should be a spring loaded plate.

press the plate. if the plate comes back to you like a spring is pushing it, then it should be in working order.

also try this while the engine is running and pressing it should lug or kill the engine.

i have killed a 22re by pressing this.

be gentle with the rubber intake hoses, they are very expensive to replace. check the large hose connected to the t-body for cracks while your there.

good luck.
