Hey folks!

I've been a member for about a year and have owned my first LC for the last ten months. I have thoroughly enjoyed this site, it's been a huge asset for me getting my 60 into shape. I've especially enjoyed the pictures that you all post so I thought I'd add a few of my own from a little jaunt I took with my girls this weekend.

Harris Creek Summit

A few details about my rig:
It's a 1982 that spent most of its life in So Cal. I bought it from a guy in Las Vegas who'd owned it for about a year. My wife and I flew to Vegas and drove it home to Boise, Idaho (almost 800 miles) without incident. There is zero rust on the body! The PO had put a new paint job on it but just about the entire interior was gutted.

My first challenge was getting it to pass emissions in Boise. Unfortunately I live in the one county in Idaho that does smog tests. After a couple of failures and some minor tinkering I pulled the carb and rebuilt it myself. I also found that the air injection system wasn't working because the gas filter (vacuum source) on the intake manifold was plugged. After fixing that it passed easily. Since then I've done the following:
-Replaced broken front springs
-Repaired and recharged the A/C
-Replaced PS pump
-Replaced air pump (front bearing killed by ATF from PS pump)
-Replaced alternator (just died one day)
-Replaced radiator, hoses and thermostat
-Shaved the head and replaced head gasket (had to pull the head because I dropped a lock washer into my intake :whoops:)
-Planed the intake/exhaust manifold (no more leaks!)
-Replaced all vacuum hose with high-temp silicone tubing
-Added aftermarket cruise control
-Installed headliner and replaced interior panels
-Numerous little interior fixes and additions

Stuff I still have to do:
-Install carpet, not looking forward to this
-Fix driver's seat-new cushion is on the way
-I've got some play in my driveline, don't know what this is yet
-Transmission or tranfer case is grinding/whining, this summer's project
-Add an OME lift
-Build my own roof rack

Overall it's been a little bit of a love/hate thing, but mostly love. The bad days suck (PS pump burping fluid all over) but then a day like yesterday makes it all better.

Welcome

Welcome, nice to have another cruiser in Idaho, I'm lucky enough to be in Pocatello, where we have no emissions, because I would not pass. Sounds like you got a good solid rig, nice pictures.

Great pics. Thanks for sharing. BTW, what aftermarket cruise control did you add and are you happy with it?

Thanks,

fowldarr, my brother lives in Burley and if I start having trouble again I may "sell" my rig to him to get it out of Ada county. I don't disagree with trying to keep the air clean, especially in areas like Boise that are susceptible to inversions, but Ada county should start exempting vehicles because of age (they don't). These vacuum controlled emissions systems are tough to keep going.

Aaron, this is the cc I installed, it was pretty easy. The hardest part was tapping into the brake light wires (mine were pretty short so I had to reach way up under the dash). I didn't have to use the driveline magnets, I simply connected the coil wire and it works great!

Oh, and fowldarr, there are a number of 60s and 62s here in Boise. About half the time I see one it's at a gas station.

Looks like the girls had a terrable time..............THAT is what having a cruiser is all about.

Gonna be a great summer of boating in the West this year.

Hey Ray - Just have to chime in and concur. I've had my '90 FJ62 for a week now and am thoroughly enjoying the snow that's been falling in Boise. And yeah, I was just at the pump this morning...gulp! It hasn't decreased the number of teeth people see in my smile though.:D See ya 'round.

Bucky'sRig, first post, huh? Welcome! Do you have some pics of your rig you could share? That way I can recognize you when I see you.

Ray

Had to start somewhere I suppose. I'll post some pics soon...I've noticed that you can't get too many places on this forum without them. Thanks for the welcome.

60 in snow!

Sounds like a great trip..60s are really good in snow if you keep your head about you..

Here is my 60 up at Mt Bachelor on 01/27/08..I work up there and drive the rig most of the time...Only problem I ever have is icing of the windshield wipers when it's really coming down...have to stop and scrape the wipers every now and then..

You guys are killing me. I miss Idaho so much. It's a good thing you brought a Cruiser back into Boise, since they were down one with me taking mine away. You are right about tons of them in Boise...especially in the North End. I bought mine from a guy that lived at 15th and Fort St, then the truck moved a few blocks away with me up by Camels Back park. It had been passed thru 3 owners all within a few blocks in Boise upon being brought there from Alaska.

There used to always be a blue one sitting about across the street from the Stinker Station on 13th. Then there is another Mudder that lives south of State St near the West Side Drive-In with a couple 55s and a bad-ass blue 45.

A homecoming may be in order one of these days! I miss rolling up to Bogus or McCall.

ksrunner, you're not going to believe this, but I drove past that 60 (red, right?) with the for sale sign on 15th and Fort every day for months (I commute to St Lukes every day via Cartwright road) thinking, man that's a good looking truck. That was the rig that started it all for me. One day it was gone and I was more than a little bummed that I didn't move on it. I also know the blue one you're talking about, I'm very envious of the roof rack on that one. There was also a white one parked on 15th for a few months too.

You should be back here in Boise this winter. We've had more snow here than we've had for ten years or more. It makes the drive to work every morning very fun.

You guys are bringing back a lot of great memories I have of living in Boise(mid 90's). Had a great
time at the Humanitarian Bowl and New Years this year. Hope to move back someday. Great city!

That's my truck now. It taunted me for a few months as well. My old 85 4runner is still in the north end though....about 15th and Eastman. I looked at a lot of trucks before I got this one. I would have rather found a post 85 for 5speed swapping ease, but all the newer trucks I looked at were too rusty.

I know this has been a great snow year out there. I torture myself with the snow reports from time to time. My office was on Bogus Basin Rd.

My truck needs a little work before I point it that far west anytime soon though.

Ray - I promised a picture of my rig (pre-snow) so you could track my movements through town. I live in the Highlands and work downtown, so I suspect we'll pass each other occasionally. It is indeed a small world as the blue cruiser in Hyde Park (with the awesome rack) and KSrunner's red 60 (which I used to longingly drive by) started my salivary glands in the first place. I'll wave if I see ya.

240 inches and dumping (94 inches in January alone!!)

If you live up in the Highlands, you probably have seen the house more or less at the corner of Bogus/Hill road that has an 80, 62, and 40? It was right behind my office which was on the corner across from Pac-out (Mmmmm) next to...Alpenglow, i believe.

nice looking rig !!!! I have been driving mine in the snow since it started snowing in McCall in early dec. I'm waiting for the day to drive on some bare pavment,, maybe sometime in may the way it has been going lately. I do not get too many chances to get to Boise. want to go wheeling in McCall this spring, drop me a line .
