In the middle of replacing the center muffler. I removed all the bolts at the front flanges and have the rear clamp off but can't get the rubber hangers off. I thought this was going to be the easy part.... They are in good shape if a bit stiff from age. I tried spraying with soapy water. I even tried some grease but can't get the rubber off the frame rods. Is there a trick to prying them off? I could try cutting off the rods that are connected to the old muffler to maybe make it easier but wanted to check in for advice first.

The slot in middle seems to fit a medium size prybar.

There's no trick other than lube and force. Sometimes those come off easy, sometimes it's a nightmare. A prybar is good, sometimes pliers. Soapy water is a great lube for that job.

If you're not in a hurry, you can buy pliers meant exactly for the job. Like this: Amazon.com: Lisle 38350 Exhaust Hanger Removal Pliers: Automotive

The PB did the trick. Got em off with a lot of effort. What a pain but the install should be easy now. Thanks all

it is a multi step process. I cut the hangers with a sawzall.
