Man, Those are nice! You did a good job. Does that powder coating get damaged, when mounting the tires. If so, can you touch them up.

Thanks, Ron

Shouldn't get damaged if the person installing the tires knows what they're doing. Most brand new wheels come powdercoated too, so its not anything unusual. Powdercoating can't be touched up, but it can be stripped and recoated without too much trouble since the base metal is already clean now.

Drool!! cant wait to get them Baktash! You did a fantastic job!

Got the tires mounted on some 31x10.5x15 on some Bridgestone Dueller ATs I took from a rig I have. There a little older but still have great tread. Installed a 750CCA battery last week too so we're good there too.

Took it for a drive around the hood and on the road briefly with the new rubber/rims. Brakes were fine, but man, I can sure tell they are drums. I am debating if I want to undertake the swap this weekend. It drove good and got up to about 55. There is a good amount of play in the steering wheel, maybe they are all like that??? .

I am taking her to SCC next weekend, so I will clean her up inside, rip out the headliner, finish the rear window bypass and drain/fill the tcase with some newer 80 weight.

I'd like to get her registered but have to pass inspection. As far as I can tell I need to troubleshoot the horn and put the DS mirror on. The lights/signals work, she stops, and has good shoes, so I should get a pass.

Pics to come this weekend after I get some Meguiars and de-oxidize her. I also have a set of early hub caps that I am going to put on too.

Come on now, you gotta post a pic of Elsie with her new shoes ;)

Tucker

x2, we need pics.

Did you get that monster AC unit working?

Ok, here is a pic. I did try the knob on the AC and the lowest level fan did work amazingly. I am sure it's out of freon, but was surprised it works. I will swap it out most likely though since I am almost positive it uses R12.

I just went through the rear window removal. I removed the entire window assembly then took off the motor, it was seized. Toyota made these motors easily rebuildable. I pulled the motor apart and wire brushed/cleaned everything. Put it back on the mechanism then hooked up a battery jumper box and it works great. Cleaned up and lubed the mechanism just need to reinstall it. I need some new rubber for the entire door but can probably get away with just buying the window track seals for now. They are cheap.

It's insane how expensive new rubber seals are for the 55...

Had a productive day working on her. The wife and I were able to do the following:
  • Buffed out the oxidation, she is really shiny now
  • Fixed the rear window. And the switch on the dash work too!!
  • Removed the headliner
  • Removed the seats and rubber mat, then vacuumed the crud up. She is naked inside

Tomorrow's list, hopefully all will get done
  • install windshield wipers
  • Drain/Fill transfer case and both diffs
  • Bleed brake MC
  • Bleed clutch
  • Powerwash the entire inside, then reinstall the seats and mat
  • Install rear window weatherstripping

Didnt get to it yesterday, but today I did manage to do the following?

  • flush/fill diffs with GL5
  • flush/fill tcase and tranny with GL4
  • bled brakes
  • bled clutch

I dropped the tcase/tranny plate for better access. The plate has some dung in there along with a nest of something. A critter must have resided in there while it was in storage. I have seen worse :)

Looks like I need to replace the clutch master and slave along with the master brake cylinder. For the CM, I see some kits that offer to upgrade the CM slave and master to > 9/74. ANy recommendations for this? What does this offer?

And I removed the rad cap to check it and the cap broke, so I need one of those too.

I finally hosed it out completely. Lots of dirt washed away. The seats are back in now as is the upper tailgate rubber. My window is really fast!

I took it to Green Grass Hopper's shop- Land Cruiser Specialist to work on somethings today. He ordered me a new master clutch and slave cylinder. Fortunately, the newer style worked and it shifts much better.

It was stalling, so a new carb gasket went in along with some adjustments- thanks for the help Edwin! Runs better too.

Bad news, I have a vacuum leak somewhere and the rad has some small holes. I put on some jbweld on the rad that should hold it over until I get a new rad.

I am going to break her in this weekend on some maiden adventures.

Thanks for posting that Tucker. Yeah I have been trying to get her ready for SCC but I haven't had a chance take any photos yet. I am sure I'll have plenty of photo ops this weekend.

Yes Pablo, i am towing with a diesel excursion, (see sig)

I love that air conditioner on top. It is so unique. If you decide to do a paint job on the old girl you need to think about really doing something different with it. Something like having WWII "sharks teeth" painted on the cover. Regardless of what you do, I love it. Good luck with all the work you have planned!

Thanks. I think most dont like the AC though. I may try to charge it up though. It needs a belt, but the compressor isnt frozen, and the fan turns on on 1 setting. Paint? yea, thats in the future. I want to get her mechanically sound, then address body issues, then paint. And throw an OM617 in it like Tuckers- I had a chance to ride in that last week and I really like it.

Pic from SCC yesterday. This is getting ready to embark on a more daunting trail. Overall, she did really well. I stayed on the 1s and 2s. The 3s were too tight and I didnt feel comfortable with drums. I really can appreciate disc brakes now. I will be calling Kurt next week to get seals and try to do the swap over the next month.

I did have to go into 4L a decent amount, 4H just didnt cut it. It's like it when into Overdrive though and just crawled right up.

I do still have a pinhole rad leak, you cant tell it from the ressie though. The wife has more pics on her phone and camera from today that I will post when I get back to Austin.
