Just an update-

Katemcy/Roundup was a blast. Unfortunately, the pig failed inspection and I didnt have time to fix it before Roundup. We're aiming for SCC to have the new drivetrain and all goodies in place.

Friday, I got to go out with the IPOR guys, Georg, FJ40Charles, Toploader, Bobbie Don and some others doing the hardcore stuff. Charles and Georg let me drive their beasts, very fun and I can see why people do it!

The IPOR guys are a good group and glad they made it for sure. I have to give a special thanks to Tucker for telling me about the IPOR 55 rear bumper with spindle that the Lance/Cam brought down to us. Pics coming, maybe Tucker will beat me to it. But it's very very heavy duty with excellent welds. Very beefy.

Here is Tucker's truck, it performed great.

Had a chance to work on her this weekend. When I took her to get inspected, she failed because of 1) bad wiper blades and 2) no license plate lights.

For #2, I found that the wire under the truck on the rear frame was severed. I ended up fixing this by connecting the two wires.

For #1, this is turning out to be a little more challenging than expected. It appears the 73+ models have a longer wiper arm linkage than the earlier ones. I cant see to just replace the entire arm with a newer Yota arm. ANd just sliding in the rubber blade into the OEM unit isnt working as they are longer and dont have a rear cavity in the blade to hold the old skool clip on the end.

Any advice on how to fix this? This is my last hurdle before she gets back on the road!

Thanks Tucker, I'll swing by one of the auto stores on the way home from work and get one. We'll shoot for Tuesday for inspection day.

Good news!! We passed inspection and have plates!! So another one is back on the road!

Anyone know what size bolt is the rear license plate nut? Can't seem to find one looking in my parts stash....

I thought it was a captured nut in the tailgate?

Yes, but there were no bolts. I ended up finding some good 10mm that were slightly larger but worked.

I think CO is the same, but we're required to have front plates too. I put mine in the cabin, I cant come to drilling into the bumper. My defense will be front plates werent required when this was produced. Besides, its not like I am gonna outrun anyone :)

that brings me to another question- anyone know the top speed of the F? I cant imagine it being much more that 60-65. Funny since the speedo shows 100mph :0

Max speed depends on max RPM, final drive of tranny (4 spd = 1:1), gear ratio of axles (4.11?) and tire size.

I have a 3 speed , so the rpms climb pretty quick. I haven't done the math yet, just wondered if someone knew off hand.

Jason,

As far as the front plate, I used one of these which will clip on to your winch roller:

Now let's see some pics of the beast, you drive her in today?

:pig:

Tucker

Thanks tucker, I'll get that when I put my 8274 and bumper on.

I didn't drive it, worked from home. But I did let the wife. She didn't mind it and got lots of looks. Her biggest issue was the parking brake is very hard to disengage for her, so I need to put some grease on that.

Okay, if you decided 3000 RPM was max for your F, and you had 4.11:1 in the pumpkins, that engine RPM would turn your tires 729 revolutions per minute if the tranny were in a final drive ratio of 1:1.
Good so far?
Converting minutes to hours equals 43740 Rev per Hour.
What size tire do run? The most accurate answer will require the true size, not advertised.
Circumference of a circle = Pi*D, where D = diameter.
A true 31" tire would have a circumference of 97.3 inches. Convert to ~0.001536 miles.
Multiply to find out that 3000 RPM in that scenario equals a little over 67 MPH.

I've seen lots of holes in the side of F motors because people thought they could drive that fast ... just saying.

:frown:

Tucker

Yep, it is up to the individual as to how fast they want to spin that engine.
Just b/c my Honda B18C1 has a redline of 8200 RPM doesn't mean I like to take it there on a regular basis..

What Pablo said! :)

Thanks TJ, very appreciative of the math!! I dont anticipate 3000 RPMS, I dont like to hear the engine whine.

I feel the same! I hear people say you can wind the F/2F up to 3500, I just don't like to.

Also keep in mind that an advertised 31" tire is likely under 30" tall once it is mounted and has vehicle weight on it.

Took it out on the road yesterday for a Sunday drive with the fam. It was nice to drive. I will replace the steering wheel tonight with a spare I have, it's pretty mangled and little shards cut into your hands when you drive. The misses wasnt happy with it.

I did come to a momentous decision. The rooftop AC will be removed. I am not liking it now and I dont see how it adds to the value. So, that leads me to two questions:

1) I need to fill in the hole with some sheetmetal. Does bobm have roof patches? Or anyone know of one that can be cut? I need to take another look but I dont believe that the support beams were cut, so its just the metal itself. Also, I am guessing the patch is a 16x12 or so, maybe a little larger.

2) being in Texas, AC is a necessity. And the backseat and rear needs to be cold too. What options are out there? I figured I would go with a newer/larger compressor. I think the harder part will be to find the bits for the inside. Any options/recommendations are appreciated.
