I'm looking to get a bike rack ASAP, probably a spair tire mounted one... but if I can't find one that will fit my bike and the FJ I would like to pickup a hitch mounted one that will... I've ordered the recever hitch from the dealer, but there back ordered and no one can tell me what size it will be 1 1/4" or 2"...

I'm leaving the shop with a bike rack one way or another..... even if I can't mount it for the next few weeks.

Thanks for your input

All of the reciever's I've seen have been 2". I can't imagine them even making a 1.25 for it.

You need to check to see if the bike's handle bars will clear the spare tire mounted on the door. If not, you might want to get a rack that can hold 4 bikes..and mount the bike on the furthest position away from the tire. Or, you could get a 2" reciever extension tube.

I have never had much luck with spare tire mounted bike racks, always bounced or were unsteady.

I plan to go with a 2" receiver hitch mounted rack...darn near the only reason I'll be putting a receiver hitch on the FJC, as I don't tow very often.

I'm picking up a hitch mounted, swing out rack directly from Toyota; about $480 ish CDN. The parts department is currently holding it for me ... now if only they could get the hitch in.

Ive had the problem where my handle bars would interfere. So I would remove the front tire, and turn the bar sideways to make it fit. Always tie the bike and the bars down to something ridgid so it wont move and scratch stuff. Just throw the front tire in the rear. Hope this helps

Just got off the phone with my dealer. apparently Canada is out of stock on the recever hitch for the next 6 to 8 weeks. There looks to be stock in the US but they are only giving Toyota Canada one or two a day.... Apperantly Toyota Canada didn't think there was going to be as big of run on accessories as there has been...

Just might have to leave the bikes at home and do more wheeling...

Have you looked at Thule and Yakima? They both make decent bike carriers. Check them out, as they make both Spare Tire mounts and Hitch mounts, and are readily available on the internet or in any decent outdoor sporting goods store or bicycle store.

I decided to buy a “Saris Cycle On” bike carrier which attaches to the factory Toyota hitch. The receiver went in far enough to put the bolt through the second hole – this translates to “it’s in there good and solid”. Both bikes fit in without any interference from the spare tire – this was my primary concern in getting a carrier like this to work with the FJ. It’s out far enough that you can fold it up which, for me, means it fits in the garage with the carrier on … 1” clearance on either end :). Two downfalls - 1) you can't open the back door with the bikes in place and 2) you have to lower the bike seats so they clear the handle bars on the second bike.

I’m probably going to pick up the two bike add-on so that I can eventually transport four bikes.
