Cant say Ive ever owned a mtn bike, But I have had a few dirt bikes and let me tell you those things can nip you in the butt. Prolly the worst one i ever had my leg got tangled in between the trailing arm and the spinning tire and tore a good half my leg off. Was about 7 months till i got off the crutches a good 9 before I could walk right and about a year with a gauze bandage covering a massive hole in my leg. (only took 3 months to get me back on the bike tho =P)

Bummer about your wrist Mark. Cast?

Had a funny crash one time in the Blue Hills reservation. Riding down some steep rocky single track in the trees. Got a little too much air in a turn, trail went left and I didn't. Hit the side of a tree and grabbed it with the bike still attached about 6' up. Bruised shoulder, pine branch stuck in my leg about an inch, and put a nice dent in the top tube. I'm a tree hugger.

I took up trail running when I was down with a broken hand. If you want to keep your fitness, give it a go. A few times I went trail running with our mtb group and was able to keep up, actually ahead in some sections cause' it is some good technical ups and downs. I guess I am not afraid to be a dork.

Hang in there and get well.
