Hello everyone!

My name's Mike and I'll be moving to Spokane this summer. Dates are tentative, but I start law school in August so will definitely need to be there by then.

The :princess: and I are currently looking at rentals and have been back and forth between Tacoma and Spokane a few times over the past few weekends. She'll be moving to Corvallis for grad school, but we'll ultimately be in Spokane until I'm done.

As for me, I'm originally from NY, did 7 years in the Army (without ever re-enlisting, I might add), finished my Bachelors degree this spring at UW, have a dog named Floyd, like to drink beer, and try to camp as much as possible. I despise campgrounds and crowds, but can't quite get on board with the good ol' boys and their confederate flags out in the woods either.

I've owned 4 cruisers... a 1978 FJ40, a 1992 FJ80, a 1994 HZJ75, and most recently my 1997 FZJ80. I've done a ton of work over the past 5 years of owning my 80, and am excited about getting out more from the east side. I've been all around the central portion of the state and ran the WABDR from South - North last summer. I do frequent trips around the Columbia river (Quilomene, Colockum, Manastash, etc.) almost year round.

We got a pretty solid group of people together in the South Sound Cruisers regional board and I'm hoping to find that same dynamic here in Spokane. I'll probably post a lot, mostly just to get to know people and see what's going on the cruiser world over this way!

I just finished doing a full front end rebuild on the 80 and look forward to getting out that way to meet everyone. I'm always down to lend a hand wrenching but probably won't have much for room. I've got a hub socket and am willing to travel, though!

Any tips on Spokane, housing, camping, offroading, or other are appreciated! I'd love to attend a meetup with the :princess: sometime in August or September if anyone's free. We're both huge fans of the outdoors and camping, and do as much exploring as possible. We like to keep things pretty low key, and have built the 80 to perfectly suit our needs when out. I'm looking forward to taking delivery of a CAMPTEQ in the next week or two that will round things out for us quite nicely.

Mike & Becca

Other rigs...

And, some ghosts from the past.

First cruiser was the 1978 FJ40.

Second was the 1992 FJ80

Third, recently sold, was the 1994 HZJ75 Troopie

Few more...

I miss the troopie like crazy sometimes, but the truth of the matter was it got to the point that most of the work I was doing to it was to make it more like an 80 series.

I could never forgive myself if I had a troopy and gave it up. That thing's gorgeous.

Some of the areas just outside of the main city (5-Mile Bluff, Spokane Valley out towards the Valley Mall, and the northern area of the city) aren't bad places as far as cost. The valley is more older neighborhoods and oldskool suburban areas, 5-Mile seems to attract the wackos (you people know who you are :flipoff2: ), and the north end is home to quite a few tweakers and Russians. My wife and I got sick of the north end, couldn't afford to buy on the South Hill and did not want to keep renting, so we bought a place out in the valley. Housing costs are fairly reasonable (way the hell better than west of the mountains, that's for sure!), so depending on if you're looking to rent or buy, you shouldn't have much trouble finding a place. If you like wrenching, there are many places that either already have shops, or are on enough property to build one. My shop is tore up from the floor up right now, but I'm slowly picking away at getting it back together and being done messing with the electrical. The sooner the better too, because I have to get my 62 in there so I can rebuild my steering knuckles. Yay for shot bearings....

Hey Mike! Welcome to the Spokane area. I am a 2nd year law student down here in Moscow, Idaho. My family and I are also always out and about when we can find some time. We're only about about 45 min away. Good luck with school and feel free to get a hold of me if you ever have any questions. Look forward to meeting you.- John
