Hello,
I am moving next week to Cheraw. For the first couple of weeks I will be living in hotel and I dont know anyone but I would like to change that. Is there anyone near there? What can I do there and will anyone help mme if I come to an impasse and need some assistance? I am going to be driving up there from Chattanooga so I will go through ATL and then to Charlotte and then down.

Better routes? Any suggestions for what to do? Thanks

Don't think I would go that way to cheraw. I'd probably go 85 to 26 to 20 to florence then go over to cheraw from there. I dont recall there being much of interest in cheraw but I can ask my dad he goes every few days for work. I would say youll have to go somewhere if you really want anything to do.

thanks clemson55. i'll do that i would rather not see charlotte again until my wife makes me go there again.

If you play golf, one of my favorite courses of all time is in Cheraw.

The state course? I think it was ranked #1 in SC a few years back...

Cheraw is one of the most beautiful old southern towns I've ever seen. My wife's family is from there, and until both of her grandparents died last year, we went for Thanksgiving and Christmas...

Their house is for sale....

I'm not sure why you would go to Atlanta from from where you are at?

Yep, the Cheraw State Park Golf Course. It is one of the most scenic and uncrowded courses in the Carolinas. Plus, the last time we played it was around $25 for 18 holes.

It is across the street from the Cheraw Country Club. CCC is fun too since it is an old Donald Ross course but it isn't as nice and inexpensive as the State Park course.

One of my best rounds of my life was at the State Park Course which is another reason I like it so much.

Good Golf. thats all i need to hear. i go through Atl b/c i have to. i would rather go through Kville, but we have to do what we have to do.
You said the State course? I will try it out. I am not ready to buy yet, I need to get the lay of the land. I actually like that part of the world.
I also need to see the course. if you played your bbest round then i doubt your objectivity.

BTW where are you all? are you all west and upstate?

Like I said, both courses are entertaining enough. The State Park Course has a much nicer, more scenic and natural layout (see more land to work with) but given that CCC is a Donald Ross original certainly counts for something in my book.

The Cheraw State Park Course is very inexpensive to play like I mentioned. It is also rarely crowded which is an big deal to me - IH8SLOWGOLF.

I've probably played there 12-15 times and didn't post one of my career rounds until later on.

It is an objective opinion though. I've been playing golf for over 25 years and have probably played over 150 (I used to keep track but stopped) courses in the Carolinas combined so I've seen enough to know it's a real gem.

Im hoping that i can play a rounnd like you did cruiser4life. there is nothing better than a good round at a great course.
with my wife remaining in chatt for a couple of weeks i will have some time ffor golf w/o the complaints. (i should have played more when i was single.)

Go over on 20 from Cola and then cut up from there dont go all the way to Florence. I went there to pick-up my lawnmower when I won it on eBay a few years back.

There is a little town near there. Cannot remember the name but it is where former Governer Beasley is from. (It might be _____ Hill?)Do NOT speed through there at all! They will bust a fool on your head for all kinds of little stuff. Its worse than Due West!

Seemed liek a nice area. A little too far east in the state for me, but nice. :) Good luck, I dont think we have anyone int he club close to there. That is quite a ways from the upstate.

Funny thing is, they have all of these signs up telling you to watch your speed....

I've been through there on high volume traffic holidays and have NEVER even seen a patrol car....

Maybe they just got crazy or something, and built up a good rep and are coasting....

I still slow down, regardless....

Nah it wasnt McBee.

I found the name of the place its Society Hill.

I honestly think they are running a racket there or something. They will let you pay an extra fine and get the ticket wiped off your record. (If you come to court.) Dang ticket cost me a ton, but it didnt show up.

i know you guys have to stay upstate. i finally made it and you are correct, Society Hill. I didnt get caught but the two in front of me did. I would have been the 3rd if I had not been warrned. it is pretty though. thanks for the help.

If you need any help there, I'll find out who to go to for what you need....

For insurance, I'd recommend Buddy Brooks w/ State Farm....

Reid McBride is a family relative, he has the photography studio there and is on the city council...
