Hi Guys,
I grew up in Atlanta, but currently live in Dallas TX. I am starting to make arrangements for getting myself and my toys back to Atlanta in May.

I have a 60 and an old volvo that needs to come with me. The volvo will be towed behind a buddies Yukon.

On that end,I will be needing a car hauler that will make a one way trip to Atlanta.

The reason I am posting as I am trying to stay away from the shoddy (and expensive) u-haul trailers.

Here are my questions / options

1) Buy a trailer here, tow it w/ the car and then sell the trailer in GA.
If anyone sees or wants a trailer from TX, let me know I can deliver it free of charge :steer:

2) Rent a nice trailer here from a company and then find someone who needs a trailer for the way back. A nice 18ft w/ dove tail is going for 45/day in some places

3) Do the flip-side and drive back someones rented trailer.

Let me guys know if any of these tickle your fancy.

Here's to a summer that can't come fast enough

cool, how does the Volvo do the trails?

Can't help you with the trailer thing but welcome aboard. Please feel free to make an event or a meeting when you get here.

Just a thought, lots of logistics and headaches with moving and having to own a trailer, etc. is just another headache to deal with unless you have lots of time, money, space, etc.

When I moved here back in 2000, I used umove.com, and used the space on a semitruck for my personal stuff and drove my car here.
They might have some sort of option for that type of thing or you could talk to downhill Dave about other ideas. He deals with moving companies.

You could try googling brokering space on a car carrier.

Excellent thought, Downhill Dave works for Berger Allied, a major residential and commercial moving company. He doesn't frequent the forum too often so if you want you can pass along your info to me in a PM and I will get it to him.

Pillguy,
Thanks for your input. I actually brought this car from Atlanta originally, and had it trucked over here. I used uship.com and has pretty good results. My issue is this, when it came here to texas, it was a kinda weathered driver, now it's restored almost completely.

On the large carriers, they truck the cars to different depots and then move the cars off and on. This process is repeated multiple times. And takes many days. takes a toll on the cars. Not to mention having to pay for the upper deck so that the cars above you don't drip oil, or god forbid brake fluid on your paintjob.

So I used a guy from uship. But that still took days and cost me over $500. The car was out of my control for multiple days, and in the end I just want to avoid this. But I agree with you. I think a u-haul trailer is going to be my fallback.

Thanks for the offer!!
Let me keep working on the trailer option and I will get back to you in a week or so, if nothing comes up!

Thanks everyone for your great response. :D

I might be interested in this option, I will send you a PM with more details.

I'm certainly no expert on car haulers, but my searches have found that Texas dealers are a lot cheaper than most local dealers.... Maybe I'm just looking in the wrong places, though.

My research confirms this also!
So if someone wants a nice trailer, then I can get it for you.
As a bonus, if you buy from in TX from ATL, you might not have to pay sales taxes! :bounce:
