im looking to set up a trip for some friends to do some dirt road exploring in the mountains check out scenic views and what not and was wondering if any of yall knew of some places since ive have seen some pics in some of your threads...

what is this cullowhee place yall talk about? is it private or forest service roads or what?

Detailed, topographical maps are your friend. Get one and focus on National Forests and rural mountain sections and you'll find plenty of dirt roads / trails to explore - more than you can cover in a couple of years.

Cullowhee is a small, mountain town in western NC where Western Carolina University is located.

so what is it those pics are from just roads around that town? does anyone know any good hotspots such as good camping and scenic views such and waterfalls and rivers and what not?

I can say that they are forest service roads and all vehicles need to be tagged. The culloshee system is mostly old logging roads and unimproved forest service roads. and as andy says a good backroads map or topo set will have tons of dotted line roads to explore. Those pics are from these fsr's that lead from the valleys up to some of the ridgelines above town.
