Our family hasn't been there since the Aspen Fire, so we went up to have some pizza and cookies and ride the ski lift.
It's about a 2 hour drive from Oracle, easy but scenic..

Looking southeast toward the San Pedro river valley.

Found a "no user pass" ticket on the windshield when we got back to the parking lot.

Where were you parked? There is no fee or permit required to visit the businesses. Do you still have you lift ticket receipts?

That is what I understood, problem is the ski valley parking lot was full and I parked just inside the gate to the top (actually between the gate and the sign that says "permit required beyond this point". It's a fine line I know..
The ticket just lists ski valley as a location, and I do have lift receipts, but it is only for $5 ($100 after 14 days:eek:), I think I'll just send them a check with a grumpy letter.

Edit, I'll send the lift ticket receipts also, what do you think the odds are for getting my check back.

At any rate, this time of year is great for cactus porn.

Now I need Ross to tell me something about Jesse's rock..

It looks like Olivine/Peridot with some low grade Chrysoccola near the bottom of the picture.
Is it real hard or does it crumble? The harder it is the closer the silicate is to gem quality.

Cool rock.

The turquoise colored stuff looks like chrysocolla, but I also think I see some malachite and azurite. They are all oxide copper minerals.

I can't tell from the picture, but the green stuff looks like epidote. This was all probably a hydrothermal deposit. The color is good for olivine, but very uncommon to get Cu minerals and olivine together.

Was there any limestone around? Where exactly did you find it?

I'll give you $2.50 for it too. :grinpimp:

Ross the kid doesn't want to sell, but thanks for the offer..

She found it on the side of the road just up from the Oracle Ridge mine. There is an area where there was some OLD mine opperations going on and we pulled alot of the typical greens and blues out from the bank on the side of the road.

Also, the green crystals are hard.
