Hi,

I am planning to swap a 1FZ-FE engine and transmission from a FZJ75 Land Cruiser into a 60, but not sure what transmission it is, what is the transmission that traditionally comes out of an FZJ75/70 LC. From the interior pictures of the 70 series, the transmission should bolt right up but the motor is a different story. I dont have pictures to share unfortunately.....

So to put simply, what tranny/transmission part number comes from a 70 series?

It would most likely be a H150F or maybe a H151F.The H151F has a taller 5th gear and I think it was mainly used in the 80 or 100 series.
But these things seem to vary a bit depending on which country it was sold in.

These transmissions are a bit longer than the 60 series 5 sp

My next question is, will the H55f bolt up to the 1FZ motor? OR can i only use a H150/151 with the 1FZ ?

I think its all about the spline count and length of the main shaft. I think the FJ60 H55F will have a 10 or 11 splines (I can never remember) and the 1FZ shaft will be 14 spline(relying on memory again) and I expect the shaft lengths will be different.
The next headache will be the clutch and flywheel diameter. On the diesels, the H150 and 151 (usually)run a 300 mm clutch and the clutch off a FJ60 is 275mm?.

IMO ,it would be better to use the 1FZ gearbox, particuarly if you are in dunes a lot. These gearboxes can shift quicker and this is a big advantage in heavy sand but Im sure you would know that.;)

Some one made a thread on this conversion,I think it was in the 60 series section

I do spend almost every weekend in the dunes.....good catch ;)

Yes, it is a HUGE advantage being able to shift quicker since the H55 is clunkier than a box of bricks but because of that i now have big biceps :D

I am extremely lucky since the transmission shift knobs fit right into the factory 60 series openings in the transmission tunnel. I will document the build with pictures and do a new thread. Now its a matter of motor mounts and trans mounts to get everything to sit properly.

We have a lot of coastal sand dunes in western australia and this mainly where I go offroad also.

Yes ,the 70 gearbox and t/case will fit into the openings, but if you got one off an 80 or 100 series it would not fit without transferring the linkages.
