Yeah ive been reading through it for a couple hours. I doubt im gonna replace the rear tailpipe, thats just stupid. After looking at the tsb working through the exhaust with new nuts and gaskets seem like something i could try if i could figure out part numbers(the tsb doesnt show part numbers). I already have a dampner on my exhaust pipe, i guess from the factory. Ive done engine and trans mount so i dont need that. I dont want to do the weight thing cause im thinking about adding sliders anyway.

If you find the gaskets, please post it. I’d like to go through and renew all the exhaust flanges as well.

I replaced muffler with Magnaflow and removed resonator. 90% of vibration disappeared. Changed motor and trans mounts and now free of any vibrations. Took weight off and didn’t notice any difference.
New Muffler! !! Now we're on to something!

Sliders wont really make a difference in what youre experiencing. The frame has a resonance at certain rpms from a combination of engine vibration and exhaust- thats where the TSB stemmed from. Ive played around with adding some exhaust dampers in various spots along the exhaust system with some improvement but its not solved completely. Not that big a deal really, but if you come across one of the frame weight isolators, that might help.
What are your thoughts on a new muffler? Do you still have OEM muffler on? That might be our saving grace.

^^Ive got a 24” magnaflow (which I like) , and tried it with removed resonator but exhaust was too loud ( drone heard inside the truck) and welded it back on a week later. Huboverland- youre not hearing the frame resonance because your chopped resonator overshadows it.

So with the magnaflow, or any a.m. muffler you loose the small damper. It does serve a small purpose to dampen hz frequency. Ive added one forward of the muffler just after the junction and one before the resonator just as an experiment. It did make a minor improvement.

This is a really subtle harmonic noise/vibration, some people notice it others dont. I generally roll with radio off so I notice everything (for better or worse) Not a really a huge issue but if you're wanting to mitigate the drone-moan play around with the exhaust and damper location.

This is what I used

About $20 ea- and youll need some exhaust U clamps.

I'm not familiar with the aftermarket exhausts systems for these trucks. When you say my "Chopped resonator" are you referring to an aftermarket exhaust that deletes the resonator in the OEM tailpipe section? My exhaust is 100% original.

In my previous post, I was making a joke about substituting SLEE SliderSteps for the cross member damper weights. I just happened to install a set of SLEE's right around the time mine started the vibration at idle.

Sorry @AlabamaLX I got you confused with an earlier post by (huboverland).

Ill go back and fix that.

Before i jump off the new muffler cliff im going to work on the TSB for boom a little more. So far ive done moter mounts and trans mount, both helped but didnt cure the cabin drone. Im ordering the gaskets and bolts today and im going to get the factory exhaust back to spec from the front to the back. Im also going to add the frame weight if i can find a used one. I have a trailer hitch im going to remove and then im going to pull spare back as far it will go per TSB. I will reprt back on my findings, here are the gaskets, nuts, bolts im ordering.

I've got some pics somewhere of the (2) different size frame weights. I copied them from another user's post years ago. The one that everybody seems to have is on the passenger's side. The one on the driver's side is similar in design, but huge.

I'll post them when I find them.
Sweet. I would like to see the differences and get my hands on both of them.

Where did you guys buy the engine mounts? Normal discounted Toyota parts places still want $115+ for all 3 each. At that price point its last on my list behind, wheel bearings and steering rack lol

Both motor mounts and trans mount are going to run you about 300+. I used ranma21 for mine, hes on this thread. I would do wheel bearings and steering rack before mounts for sure.

I'm getting this done soon. For 06-07 the trans mount part # is (12371-50180)

I'm seeing conflicting info as far as what years the mounts changed.. From what I understand, the engine mounts are the same (12361-50121) through the whole 100 series range?

But I'm finding different numbers for the trans mounts.. Which one would fit my 2003 LX? Everything I can find says (12371-50180).. Is that correct? When did they change?

Thinking it's time to replace mine. 22 years and 250k. 1998 LX.

Looks like the part # for my engine mounts is 12361-50210. Found them for $88 online from Toyota. Curiously, I found these from Febest on Amazon. Anyone ever consider these? They are only $24 each. Amazon product ASIN B00HCOIMBQ
The transmission mount for mine is 12371-50080 and found one online for $78 from Toyota.

Other than the engine/transmission mounts, the body mounts and the front LCA bushings, I've replaced all of the bushings over the past 2 years.

^^^^

Pretty sure PartSouq offers it as an alternative, so they must think they are OK.

Did you ever find the issue?

Mine does this a little when it gets cold outside. Mainly till it gets everything up to normal temp.

Can someone tell me the torque specs on the engine and transmission mounts? I seem to recall reading 27 ft/lb, but that seems low to me. Not sure if I can even get a torque wrench up there anyway.

Here you go.

Edit: I just noticed this is for the 2004 models, so 5-speed. Not sure if torque spec would be different, 5-Speed VS the older 3-Speed w/OD.
