I've read about owners having vibration concerns and some owners having to replace engine mounts to eliminate these vibrations. Should engine/transmission mount replacement be a normal service item on higher mileage 100 series? How big of a job is replacement and what do you think a dealer would/should charge?

do you have vibration issues?

Its not a big job but i cannot comment on what a dealer would charge.

210k miles and still the same mounts

Other 100 threads on this topic say you support the engine via the oil pan using 2x4 or 2x6's and jacks....

After seeing how big a difference new mounts made in my 80-series, I will be replacing them as a part of regular maintenance in my 100-series trucks as well.

What kinda difference?

Question: I have a vehicle-vibrating problem that only occurs when the car is put into "D" and stopped. When I step on the gas, the vibrating disappears. This vibrating vibrates even my car seats, and I'm not sure if this is a result of bad motor mounts, tranny mounts, or even both. Can someone advise me, and also, how hard is it to change these out?

It's probably the spare tire or the plastic motor cover. The harmonics with the 100 series are very complex. Try taking off the spare. I ended up putting some micro fiber towels between the spare and the 100's/spare contact points and cranking it up tight, big improvement. From what I have read I don't think I have the motor mounts problem, since my vibes are now slight, but I am going to have them checked.

I have the same problem. The sound seems to come from the front side (engine area). I am wondering what the solution is.

Do a search or my thread related to a new vibration after my starter was replaced. Turns out it was my engine cover. My symptoms were the same as yours. Hope your problem is this simple. Start here before replacing the mounts....

Removing the engine cover fixed my "vibrations" problem too.

What kinda difference?

Less vibration, quieter, smoother, etc.

My experience on all my cars has been, after 10, 12, 15 years, motor mounts and transmission mounts just aren't what they were in terms of handling vibration, and changing them has made a noticeable difference. This has been true for my Cruisers, BMW and Porsches in the past.

Just wondering if the weather (elements your 100 is exposed to) might shorten or lengthen the motor mount replacement interval? I know that my 100 is rust free because its spent its life in Vegas desert, but the downside is the heat and sun are harder on tires/belts and hoses. Motor mounts are rubber but the heat they are exposed to are probably close to equal no matter where you live, under the hood of the 100 series. Where did you live when you needed to replace them between 10-15 years?

Mine is 8 years old but it has lived in Vegas it's whole life. I'm getting my oil/filter change and will have mine checked out. But mine should be OK based on your experience for another 2 years when it will have around 150k miles on it.

I have the same issue, I think it is the motor mounts. I need to get in there and see if I can tighten the bolts at all.

All these vehicles were from TX, or in one case, AZ. I will also tell you, when I had the 80-series mounts changed (I didn't have time to DIY that month), the mechanic at the time thought I was nuts, but happily charged me for his time. He admitted afterwards that there was a noticeable improvement and that one mount was far worse than it looked on the truck. Moral of the story: it might be difficult to really check out on the truck.

Like you say, they are rubber, and rubber hardens. Same for tires. I've learned you should replace those based on age too, even though they have lots of tread, traction goes down significantly as they harden over time, and consequently, safety becomes a real concern. Learned this one from real experience too !

I'll keep an eye on mine, don't have the vibs others have yet. I had the shop foreman at the local Toyota dealership look at mine today and he said they were fine.

I have no engine cover, cleaned MAF, and the vibration is getting progressively worse. On "D" at stop. It's bad enough to make my dash cam blur. Going to try the engine mount and maybe tranny mount replacement. Anyone know if there is better than oem mounts any other experience with the install I should know? Thanks for any feedback. 2001 with 80k miles.

I'm in the same boat as @savirc, sometimes (normally at night) it sounds like a subwoofer test tone in the cabin of the car and my transfer case knob is leaning to the right so I think it's my motor mount. I read that most people here just replace the front 2. Is the rear one hard or does the part just cost too much?

They are expensive. Too much money IMO for what they are . I bought all 3 for close to $300. Going to try to install today.
