Auto manufacturing is truly global these days. See this years Cars.com article on "Most American car" which is based off a number of qualifying criteria.

The Cars.com American-Made Index - Cars.com

Some manufacturers will beat the guilt-drum on "Buy American or you will of failed your country" with a American flag backdrop. On the other hand they are shipping their manufacturing to Mexico and Canada along with parts purchases from suppliers from outside of the U.S.

Hypocrites, say I.

Sneak peak: Toyota Camry came in #1 this year. Toyota had 4 vehicles in the top 10!

Drive Toyota and help your country. :)

yes it is,, and its very hard to tell sometimes where your money goes. i try to support blue collar americans before sending my money elsewhere, and if i know something is assembled here, no matter where its owned, at least i can do that.

In 1996, the #1 selling American built car was the Honda Accord. Does that tell you anything? Who are we selling land in Tennessee to?
At the time, I worked for American Honda. I knew these people. It was scary! They were buying the US in cash! And we let them do it!

It's really kind of a double-edged sword. I don't like seeing foreign entities (especially illegal aliens  ) buying property in the U.S., however when they are employing thousands of Americans in building "foreign" cars it's a little different. And then to see an "American" car and look at the sticker that says "Heche in Mexico" makes you say "Huh?"

Personally I'd rather buy a car made in America from a car company that's not beholding to the US Government (or 61% owned) than the alternative. Now if I was going to buy a sports car, AFAIK Corvettes are built in the US... :D
