Hey guys, new to the area and looking for a MILD place to take the FJ40 and the family for a day of exploration. Really just focused on back country roads and mild trails. If we get the truck in 4 wheel drive so be it...

Suggestions? The 40 is reliable, but I don't like to put it on the highway for hours on end.

Cheers

Butch

we are going to need more pictures/info on the 40 before we could give you any ideas.

Welcome, and nice blog. I just spent a few minutes browsing through and will put it on my bookmarks list.

There isn't anything I know of in Montgomery proper(I grew up there but haven't lived there in 20 years), but there are several spots within easy driving distance.

Coosa WMA is probably the closest to montgomery (I have not been):

Tuskegee NF is about 45 minutes east - you could take hwy 80 instead of I-65 if you wanted to stay off of the interstate.

Skyway Motorway in the Talladega NF would be the best, although it would be a long day trip. The club has done that trip several times and will hopefully do it again soon when it cools down and the leaves start to change. you could head straight up 231 the entire way or head northeast at Wetumpka and Cross over Lake Martin on the way there.

What Matt said!
Tuskegee Nat Forest is the smallest NF in the Nation. It'll take all of 2 hours to ride every dirt road at 11,000 acres. I spent the last 20 years in Auburn, it's where I would go when bored.
Skyway Motorway would be a fun trip for you I think!

1978 FJ40

We've owned it about 2 years now.

NV4500 Tranny (5 speed)
ARB air lockers front and rear
Discs all the way around
power steering
shackle reversal
BFG KM2 (33x10.50s)
fun truck, constantly tinkering just like anybody I suppose. Drive it pretty much fails. I don't think you can every really have to many photos ;) Enjoy the weekend

You do realize these pics are more than mild wheeling right?!

Looks great! Metal Tech bumper?

Thanks for the info and compliments on the blog! We hope to have a ton more posts for the Alabama area, specifically with the FJ40.
