All,

I am going to begin prepping my 80 for Monstaliner this weekend. I plan on sanding whats left of the clear coat down so it will stick. Some of you reading this thread have probably alread done the liner & some of you know alot about paint prep:

- What grit sandpaper should I use?

- Besides cleaning up with MEK, what else do I need?

- What areas will be the most difficult & how do I prepare for them?

I see that some people have removed their hood. I really don't want to, but I may. Thoughts on this? Same goes for doors.

I plan on removing the bumpers, grill, flares, mudflaps, emblems, wipers & roof rack (covering the holes with 3M tape). Have I missed anything?

Any best practices that I have skipped?

While I'm certainly no expert in prep, I have used monstaliner just in the last 2-3 months and would offer a tip. I monstalined my camping trailer recently and had issues with the foam roller coming apart and leaving chunks in the paint job. It's entirely possible that I was 'pushing down' on the roller too hard as I was trying to get every bit of coverage out of the paint and on a camping trailer maybe it's no big deal but if this is your baby just keep an eye out for the roller breaking up.
Good luck. Post some pics when your done - we all enjoy cruiser porn.

If you read some of the replies by MM (MagnetMan) he says that the rollers coming apart is a know issue that they are trying to work on. His "fix" for now is that they are only meant to handle so much so to purchase extra rollers so that when the current one starts to fail you can replace with a new roller. While not the most ideal solution it is something to watch out for and calculate into the purchase price.

I spray all my stuff. A undercoat gun is not that much and I think it makes for a nicer finish, but I've never rolled it either.
