I have a friend in SD who is shopping for an FJ, she plans to order. The dealer/sales rep told her today that next year's model will NOT offer the white top. I told her that I doubted that and of the special edition rumor, but that I would check the FJ community.

Anyone else hear this?

I don't believe many things that dealers say. This would be one of those things.

Yeah, it seems there are a lot of dealers out there that will tell a person anything in order to make a sale.

Well if they did dump the white top, They will dump me as an FJ buyer!

I don't know for sure, but I think it is just the special edition that will be all black. As far as I know the white roof stays on all other models. There have been some dealers painting the roofs to match the body color upon arrival. The white roof is very effective in keeping the FJC cool in hot climates.
