Probably some of you have figured this out already, but (new to me) I found a way today to remove an OEM connector, and still use the OEM female end. I tried to pull the OEM female end out of the connector, but it wouldn't budge. Turns out it was because the female end has a tang that keeps it in place. I made a simple tool from a finishing nail to depress the tang, allowing the female end to come out. Here are some picts that probably make more sense than what I've written...

You can also get pig tails (wires with the metal connectors attached) from toyota for making repairs or modifications to connectors. Ask your Toyota dealer to look through their copy of "Wiring Harness Repair" Toyota publication number RM767E. The first dealer I clecked with didn't show me this publication, but did pull out a box full of wiring harness repair parts. A second dealer had the manual. The pig tails are expensive for what they are, but otherwise I would have had to cut and splice my original harness.

Hey 2mbb,

Thanks for the tip on the toy publication. I didn't know that existed. I did think of making my own pigtail, a pretty easy thing, but removing the original plastic connector seemed more "elegant." Not sure why this should matter on an old dirty greasy truck though...

Regards,
