alatlc, that makes sense. The trucks they build in the USA uses engines they now build in the USA. Wonder if the quality is the same? I know that the Plant that Toyota builds the 4runner and GX470 in is rates the top plant in the world. Do you have any info on the quality coming out of the new plants in the USA?

I want to know the official reason why some lame o from Toyota decided not to put the vvti engine in the 2005 LC.

My guess is they're gonna let the LC 100 line die out in '06 or so, as it seems most Toyota lines hold for around 7 years or so. And who was the guy who decided to get rid of the straight axle up front? Look on the bright side...at least the rear axle of Toyota SUV's intended to go offroad are still straight axles (Nissan's new full-sized SUV has 4-wheel indep. suspension!).

From the responses above, it would make sense that Toyota might manufacture engines in the US for their MidWest/Texas plants, while West Coast plants can easily be supplied w/ engines from Japan or from new US plants. Since the 4runner is made in Japan (hilux surf), I'd guess that the engine was probably made there, too, as it wouldn't make a heck of a lot of sense to import a huge component like that from the US, only to ship it back (yeah, I know, some parts are made in N. America and shipped to Japan for assembly in US market vehicles...may be partly for political reasons). I read that when the newer, low-sulfur diesel becomes widely available in '06, Toyota is contemplating importing some diesel models. Initially, they would be made in Japan, but if popularity picks up, they would be produced in the US. I can see the 1KD-FTV 3.0L TD being offered on the 4runner, but can't picture toyota offering the 100TD, as the 100 will be at the end of it's production life and maybe not even sold here anymore (as in Canada/Mexico).

I had a guy from Central America clean my heating vents out last weekend. He says Toyota trucks rule there. But in Central/South America, they get the good stuff. :)
