incredible scenery! I think that must account for 1/2 of the pleasure derived from this trip, just the breathtaking magnitude of awesome that is the natural world.
“Having had to drive this mountain over 1,500 times, I’ll follow you up it any day” -A random Pikes Peak worker. The LX470 is no Pikes Peak Ducati Multistrada, but she still gets out of her own way. Oh the sacrifices I would make to get a shot at the hill climb with something a little more nimble.
Today we attempted the Holy Cross City trail in Colorado. The first half of it was a great time, but just as this trail starts to get really interesting, I had to go and break the truck. The rock wall I was attempting really wasn’t the biggest or the baddest. It was wet at the bottom, sandy in all the dry spots, and slightly off camber to the drivers side. I gave it two solid tries, and decided to winch up to play it safe. Unfortunately the combination of the conditions and a poorly chosen angle for a winch anchor led to me snapping that CV.
It really wasn’t a big deal, we got the LX back down the rock and eventually out of the way of traffic. With the CDL engaged, I was able to drive out the 20 miles to town without issue. Better luck next time I guess, I hope to see you next year Holy Cross City.
