Missing pictures in old posts

I am finding a lot of old threads that are listed in the FAQ posts that are no longer displaying the images that the text is referring to. Is this by design? Are images deleted after an elapsed time?

forum changed software about 2 years back and the attachments didn't carry through...some have been redone, but many have not.
