I was offered a 8 y/o stick welder for 100, hardly used, not even a scratch on it. I mig welded and some tig welding but not something like this so I need some advise...?

What model Thunderbolt? Does it do both AC and DC?
From what I've seen, AC only is cheap. AC/DC is expensive. If it does AC/DC, I'll take it for $100.

I thought it was ac/dc 225 150 model. I might have to check with him.

Wouldn't surprise me. I can easily weld 1/4 inch material with my Lincoln buzz box at 120ish amps.
Doubt it'd do 1/2" in a single pass, but you probably could in 2.....

so do you dip it similiar to tig welding?
You can TIG weld with a buzz box, but it's not the same. You don't have the foot pedal control for example.
