I know some of you have had experience with military vehicles and tires, so a couple questions:

First, can you buy surplus military tires anywhere locally? Price comparison to regular tires?

Is it worth it? How do they compare to the other tires that are out there, durability, performance, on the street, off, etc?

How have your experiences with military tires been? not including the ones on your trailers, I'm talking on the vehicles.

Also, what common sizes can you get?

Thanks!

The Michelin XML 9:00R16 is tall 36.5 and skinny good for 3,750 lbs The next size the 11.00R 16 are 39" tall. good for 5,800 lbs. They have a very stiff sidewall. They wear well but are heavy, very tough, expensive and not very flexible for conforming to rock. There is a VI Cruiser member has the 11:00R 16 on a BJ60.They have a limited speed rating - I am guessing 60-65 mph

thanks for the info, so once again the US has better deals than we do.....go figure. That's a lot of info to read through and as always, filled with some BS and name calling. So overall I'm getting the same opinions:
the bad:
heavy, doesn't air down too well unless you have a beadlock rim, not the best on snow/ice (like many MT tires)
the good:
inexpensive, last forever, decent gove size so it cleans out the mud well, 4 ply sidewalls for stability.

Am I missing anything?
Any way we can buy that locally?

Keep in mind those military take-off Wrangler M/T's are getting quite old now. Goodyear have redone the M/T twice since those tires were produced. And 16.5's don't seem like a great investment these days.

I've always wanted to run some michilin's. Would be (will be?) nice when the Canadian G-wagon michilins start being available (8.25r16 I believe). I'd run em on my wagon fo-sho.
