Hey all; the gf is away so I've put up the rig (85 BJ70 LHD) on stands and am upgrading from stock to an OME set from Radd Cruisers' back lot.
I had posted an earlier rambly post about replacing the crossmember but I've figured out how I want to do it; essentially just running a new black steel pipe in where the old was... after dulling all my holesaws, of course. This member really just held 1 shock (the rear left), the rear right mounting on another crossmember 1 position forward, shared with the muffler mount...
I'm just preaching to the crowd, you all know this, but here's my question:
After sweating off the 26 year old ubolts yesterday, I was looking at the shock mounts and wondered why the right would mount to a different location- I don't mean to second guess the engineers but it seems like it would mount just as well to the same member as the left with a bit of regard given to the brake and fuel lines.
Now, both of the ubolt spring seats are the same orientation- is there a easy swap for the right rear spring seat so I can mount the shock behind the axle? I don't have any other cruisers to crawl under right now but maybe a spring seat plate from a 60 series? Or, like everything else with my rig, do I have to have it fabbed up?
Any suggestions? I'll call Radd on Monday, of course, but now I have to ride my bike there
