Anybody running or have owned a set of these? I am in need of
a new set of tires on my 2001 4runner. My Goodyears have been
a disapointment, fast wear and rubber aging/cracking. thanks!

We have a set on our Duraburban. It's an 01 Suburban 2500 that we put a duramax and Allison in. They are LT265/75r16's, E load range. We are approaching 30,000 miles on them and my driver is still raving about them. He has had Firestone Transforce A/T, H/T, Duravis M880's (OE tire for 2500HD) and Goodyear Silent Armors. He has put 100,000 miles plus on the truck and hasn't been happier.

He isn't easy to please.

They are expensive, though. Also you have to consider that a harder compound will last longer, but does mean that they will not grip as well. I personally prefer a tire that lasts ~40-50k and gives me good grip. Not to say that the AT2's won't perform well, because the first versions (LTX A/T's) wore very well, but the traction suffered, especially in the snow. They wear like a rock, but grip like one, too. (IMO).

I much preferred the Bridgestone REVO's for road performance, wear and off-road performance. They last about 40-50k miles and cost about 20% less than the Michelins.

I'm not trying to knock Michelin, because I do like some of their products like the Michelin Pilot Sport series tires and their motorcycle tires, the Pilot Powers. I just think their truck tires are overpriced for what they have to offer.

I have a couple sets of them and they worked fine for me on Sandia Peak Ski Area? Only had it hit 4x4 once on an incline from dead stop but it jumped when my 93 Toy said to jump! No spin just went up steep incline no problems. My 06 DC also has a set and have really not used them in tough conditions yet but i feel a MTR would be what was needed for a dedicated 4x4? The AT 2's are great on Highway and they will do good on snow as long as ya got 4x4 lever! I would buy another set if they ever wear out!

Thanks for the input guys, now I have to decide which LTX version to go with. One appears to be a bit more aggressivin regards to tread pattern. I do not take my 4Runner on hardcore trails, my Tacoma
is more set up for the rough stuff.

I had a set of LTX AT's on my company truck since fall of 2007. Smooth riding etc but this winter..Oct2008 I took them off and went to some BF Goodrich All terrains... better traction on ice because of a soft rubber..thus less miles especially if you drive gravel. I would not buy the AT again! I only bought the AT because the M/S options on 17 inch rims and up are pretty much none.
My old favorite is the LTX M/S Mud and snow .... better traction than the AT with the same run for ever, balance up nice and I got the tall skinny E rated(10 ply for trails)
just my 2 cents

I just put a set on my '06 4Runner this fall. I purchased them because they got a good review from Consumer Reports though they were not the "best pick" because of the price. I ordered a set from WalMart online and they came in at $200 each for 265 65R17's.
I have experienced sliding on the ice a few times but overall I am satisfied with the tire. I have not taken them of-road yet. I don't expect great performance as they are only an AT tire. 95+% of my driving is on pavement.
Tire shopping is always a challenge...what is highly rated, what is available, price, etc., etc.
I put a set of Goodyear Fortera triple tread on m wife's Sequoia 2 years ago. At that time they were rated #1 by consumer reports. We have had very good experience with them in snow rain and ice. I would purchase them again.
Good luck in your search.

Regards,
Bill

Thanks guys, I am going with the LTX M/S plus new shocks and springs(OME) this week. I'll keep you posted as to my truck rides.

For my set of daily drivers, I'm going to put on some Yoko Geolander ATS. Heard real good things about on-road and mild off-road conditions. And at $114/tire, can't lose.

My brother-in-law has a set of geolanders on his Sequoia and is very happy with them. Pretty decent in the snow he says.
