I just placed an order for an 8800 and all of a sudden I have a few questions. I did my research and know all about the radio and what it does but had a question about the mic input.

My current radio is a 2800r and the input is on the front which I like because I have the radio installed in the dash. Google images and searches show most 8800r's installed using the remote kit with the face in some sort of stand and the radio under the seat, etc.

I'd like to install the 8800r in the dash and not use the remote kit. The only problem will be squeezing the plastic clip into the radio with limited space. I know the pin layout for the mic is a bit different than say CAT5 but is there some sort of extension I could plug into the radio that allows me to relocate the mic input?

Is there anyone here that has a dash install that can share their experience?

For reference here the radio and the spot that the 8800r will be occupying.

The 8800 is not as wide nor tall so I will have to make a trim plate. Perhaps there be enough room for the plug in if I move the USB port. I'd like the radio face to be flush with the stereo and not stick out too far.

Just thinking out loud here.

My radio order includes the remote kit so I'll have that. I suppose I could mount the radio under a seat and run the cord to the open DIN slot. I could fill the slot with a plate and use velcro to stick the face to. The install would look the same as if the entire radio was installed in the slot but allow for removal of the face. This would be nice so I could stash the face when not in use but also allow me to plug in the mic when I need it (I monitor a lot so don't always have the mic plugged in) and stick it back on.

Right?
