Was wondering if anybody got any problem using portable GPS inside 100 series. Some manufacturer mention that any car with heat reflecting/metalized windshield would not work with just internal antenna.

I am not sure if the front windshield are metalized or not since the side window all have some kind metalized coating on it.

I need affordable navigation for my 99 sice it does not even have a compass and it need to be removable to be used on other vehicle.

Was leaning to Navman PIN with 3D maps that sels around $400-450. Anybody got them? There is a software from Australia for this to make it work off road also.

I hope I ask in the right forum. I could not be sure if 80 series have metalized side windows also.

I just installed a Garmin GPS V last week, no external antennae. Works fine and seems to accurate within about 20 feet. As I'm not painting targets for air strikes, it works fine for me. I don't know if the windscreen is metalized but the little monkey on the dash has no trouble getting its satellite signals.

Yeah, no problems with metalized tint and GPS here either. Hell half the time I can have the sunroof shade back and the unit doesn't even need to be on the dash at all.

i've got a super cheapo handheld garmin and it works just about the same in all of our vehicles. no noticeable degradation in the LX.
