Greetings all! New to this forum and hoping to learn and contribute!
The 2018 G550 isn’t just a luxury SUV — it’s a true modern icon of capability and craftsmanship. Built before Mercedes-Benz shifted the G-Class into its next generation of sleeker, electric-focused designs, this G-Wagen carries the authentic spirit of exploration: a handcrafted 4.0L Biturbo V8, triple locking differentials, and the unmistakable boxy silhouette that has conquered the world’s toughest terrain for over four decades. If you demand a vehicle you can trust through mountains, rivers, rocks and mud — you’ll be glad to own one.
Bought my 2018 G550 G-Wagen — (built for adventure, exploration, and turning heads)---- last year with the idea of overlanding with it. I found out that whether forging rivers or forging memories, this is the kind of machine you can keep for life. Took the street version and added just a Gobi rack and 33" Falken Wildpeak AT3s, and voila! That was it.
Spent time last summer in the Wind River Range of Wyoming, off paved roads, exploring jeep trails and fording streams frequented by bears and moose.
My next upgrade will be suspension-related. It looks like it still has OEM shocks. Any ideas or suggestions are appreciated!
