So got the 60 to the mech. this morning. He has got the pass. side all apert and just called about the SST to remove the top and bottom bearings/caps from the knuckle. I said I thought that a hammer and drift would work just as well, but I'm looking for any ideas or methods you all could suggest. He said he could use a chisel to pry the caps off and will do the hammer, I said that sounds about right from what I have read here.
Thanks.

There is a notch under the knuckle bearing races so you can use a chisel or what not to knock it out. The axle bearing are a pain to get out but I found the best way for me was a lead pipe. Stick it in the other side and bang out the bearing.

I assume he has come up on the dreaded cone washers. Tap the top of the stud with a brass drift or whack on the steering arm to make the cone washers loose. Once those are loose then he'll need to pry off the arm and cap being careful not to screw up the shims.
Bearing races are as Kevin says, drift in the hollow on each side and knock them out. The SST is NOT required.

He got it with a hammer, no prob. Except for me, that is. My calipers are shot too. The bill is going to be huge!

When he puts it together get him to be liberal with the antiseize especially on the cone washers.
