Measure a third

Is there a way to measure, or determine what gearing is in a third member, when it is "un" installed?

Yeah, they should be stamped on the side of the ring gear some where. Actually it'll give you the tooth count on the ring, you need to divide that by the number of teeth on the pinion, voila' gear ratio!
