I am starting to put together a few recovery items and noticed the new Maxtrax Lites which are lighter and shorter 35" vs 45" which makes them a bit more storage friendly (i.e. in a sack inside). I see needs with some sand crossings but probably more likely with mud and definitely the icy back country winter parking area.

I am curious if others have purchased or used them. Definitely lighter weight but I as am more of an over lander they seem to be a reasonable choice.

I like the boards stored outside. They get absolutely filthy and often smelly. I want no part of that inside.

They are light and aero and easy to strap to crossbars or in a roof rack.

+1

If they ever get used they will need to go back outside.

Thanks for pointing these out. I might give myself a Christmas present.

Where i have used my boards most was in deep snow where flotation was important, so I would tend to steer towards the larger ones.

That said, I bought a set of short no name boards that I carry around in my Chevy Bolt in the winter. The regular maxtrax are too long to fit in the car conveniently. And believe it or not I have used the traction boards with my Bolt. I got a 4Runner, Tesla, Toyota Sienna and my Bolt unstuck one day at the ski resort when it was dumping snow.

That's impulse buy pricing for a high quality board. Hardest decision might be color if it came in something other than black.

You drive a heavy full size SUV, get the original manly maxtrax mk2. The maxtrax lite would be for crossovers, sedans, subaru's and prius's...

Point taken. However, Maxtrax lites are rated to 3500kg (7700lbs), the MKII are rated to 4500kg (9900lbs). A loaded LC is 3000kg total as such they would be capable of handling the weight as 3000kg is distributed. The real difference is the length.

I use the Tred 1100 boards. I am in soft sand a lot, and times in the mining shelf roads with loose quartz and they have worked really well.

The max tracks are also good but much more $$.
