OK fellow low country crazies, I'm at it again. After Troolhole got the fuel injector installed and the rig is running like a house a fire, some new problems cropped up.

I think that due to the webber set up running so rich (gas mileage was dismal about 8 at the best down hill with a tail wind) there was not a problem with engine heat and noise in the cabin. However when the fuel injector worked out it's learing curve it is much, much hotter now(and fuel mileage in the mid teens) and that is normal in a normally aspirated engine peak efficency and power is at maximum exhaust temperature because all the fuel is converted to heat and none left in the gas flow to cool the cylinder head and or exhaust pipes. I am now much closer to the magic realm and the heat is toasting my toes.

As I pondered this issue of burnt toes I also added to the problem by adding the 5 speed and the AA lower gears to the tranny, wow performance was increased , but again at a cost that tranny and gear set in the transfer is also hotter and much louder than the stock gearing(but oh so worth it) So I had to do something as the orginal plan was for a excursion rig. Very capable of off road but still able to trip distance without cooking the driver.

Most of you know that as an old biker noise, heat and vibration usually don't bother me and in a cage I usually just wear thicker boots and turn up the sterio, but I guess I am really getting soft. I began serching mud and found that Kevin Westmorland (Wagon gear) had sound proofed and insulated his wagon in his rebuild and he recommened a product from second skin. I said wth and pulled the trigger. I ordered the heat shield and a heat sound deadner called luxury liner a closed cell foam with a hard rubber backing.

In addition I checked out some of the new gear that Kevin was now just about to deliver, I fell in love with his under seat storage seat mounting box. And yes as I type he has the first production model complete and is packaging it for shipment to some old fool in Sumter SC for the initial install:rolleyes:. Oh by the way I have already pulled the seats and deriveted all those pesky brackets in the floorboard getting ready.

:rolleyes:So for the next few weeks I may only have one seat in the rig, as I place the heat shield and the foam (it goes under the carpet) order and get a carpet set, Figure out what kind of seat to install (that is currently a comical search for sure)and try to get it all installed with my crazy schedule.

I am going to post this up here first and if I like it or you all like it I will then put it up in the 60 section. So watch for pic's and don't hesitate to throw in ideas. Heck if you've got nothing to do and I am home we can have a mini hammon on parts as we go.:beer:

First step

Get everything out and I mean everything (those in the know there was not a lot in my rig but the carpet ,seats liner etc has to come out.

As my beast was pretty sparse on interior nicetys I am posting just the application of a product called spectrum from second skin, advertised as a sound deadining product and to tell the truth I was doubtful it would work.
specter.jpg

As you can see it rolls, brushes, or can be sprayed from a undercoating gun, as I was just going to use it under the carpet and heat insulation in the roof I chose a roller , rolled on three coats and let dry. It dries to tacky for the second and third coats in less than an hour. Goes on purple dries black

Also in first step

While my friend was rolling on the spectrum in the rear cargo area, and before he rolled the roof top, I was working on removing the rivets from the floorboard where the Wagon Gear seat mount box was going.

Getting the rivets out was not a big problem just drill and drill and drill again. They make a really nice tool to do this but one of the trianble enlarging drill bits works ok just keep drilling the weld till it gives. Those with sharp eyes may note that I am an impatient mechanic and a air hammer and chisel point will get them loose too, but there will be carnage no big thing but I did get one bad rip where I didn't identify the weld with a low light and could not get it loose, but the air hammer did and left a little rip in the floor board. Such is life I'll pathch that an on to the next

More done

I have gotten some more of the insulation in and David and Scott got to check it out at the boil, even without the carpet it is a whole lot cooler and ok so much more quiet. The seat box from Waqon gear arrived and if I am not too tired from working the 3rd shift I plan on in the morning pulling the remander of the brackets(two back side of the drivers seat) getting the seats ready for a trip up to Marshall to swap with John Lee , install some more insulation and dampner and cut the final brace that has to be nicked to test fit the box maybe even get some pictures to post up in a day or two.:)

coming pic's

Worked on it all mornig and at nood said "oops" I have to get some sleep so that I can do the midnight work this week, so pic's tomorrow. Actually what I said would just be blanked out so that's good for now. :p

an on

OK seat brackets out and floor repaired, insulation placed in the entire overhead, and entire floor. Should be cooler now no toasty toes.

Wow! Good work!

Thanks It was really easier than I thought, it goes on pretty well.

And David anytime, as I have done one the next will always be better, Have a good one. Doc

and on

Took the beast to a local tint, custon shop for marine carpet install. I was so pushed for time that I did not get any pic of the sound proofing going in , but it is awesome and thick should be comfortable from a cushon aspect as well as sound deadining and heat resistance. more pic to follow, there will be more sound proofing to get some shots in the cargo area so I will post those when I get around to putting it in. Right now Carpet, then seat swap and mount the Wagon gear box and seats. :)

On the drive over to the carpet, window tint, and upholestry shop, I could not believe my one good ear a couple of times I thought the engine had died, not so it was just so quiet now that I didn't hear the dang thing. Also noted that my favorite rock station was usaully played on a sound level of 38 or 39 was at a much lower 22 and I could hear it crystal clear.

Push day

OK the sound deadner is in , the carpet marine gray really nice and installed, the seats are recovered black and red and I have three bodies coming by the shop today(to work on there race car) and I am going to hijack them to help me get the wagon gear box in and at least the front seats installed. Pic's of all to follow later today. Have a good one guys.:)

That was quick on the seats.

I like that seat box, I was thinking a slide out drawer for some reason

I like that seat box, I was thinking a slide out drawer for some reason

Long too can fit fishing rod, tripod, rifle whatever as long as it's not too thick opening goes across the truck so up to 40 inches if flexable and due to the opening size 34 or 35 inches if rigid, My Marlin 45-70 fits in real nice.

WOW, I was thinking 2 boxes, one under each seat. That's really cool.
