Master window switch retrofit question

Search didn't provide the info I need.

In reference to the driver's door master window/lock switch: 1998-2000 models don't have the "auto" function on all of the windows, but 2001-2007 models do have that function. My question is: is the "auto" function in the switch itself or is it in the window motors? For instance, if I found a 2001 "all auto" master switch, would that switch retrofit into my 2000?

I've read before on here that it won't work. The auto function is controlled through the ecu, which is different. Also, IIRC the wire harness for the switch is different.

My 01 LC has a couple broken rockers for the rear windows on the drivers door master switch. I spent some time researching this and even bought one of the cheapo units on ebay that claim to fit. It doesn't. the 2001-2002 LC and 2000-2001 LX are the only compatible units for plug and play.
