Is it just me, or why do I feel like such a chump? Replacement master window switch assemblies for the 1998 - 2002 trucks are listed at between $450 and $650. Any other switch assembly panel (land cruiser, 2003-2008 LX470 and virtually ANY other vehicle) can be found for under $200. W.T.H?!?! I ordered up a switch assembly for a 2003 and found that the connector was different. :bang: What gives? I'm starting to seriously regret my recent LX470 purchase. It came factory with the POS Nakamichi head unit, have $3000 brake parts, Peeling paint job, weak/non-functioning tilt and telescopic steering wheel motors as well as failed seat memory switches (not that I really need them).

(Sorry... just letting off a little steam here). My real question is twofold: 1) Why the eff is the window switch assembly so freaking expensive compared to all other cruiser AND lexus models, (or is there another place that sells them for a reasonable price?) and 2) does anyone have any tricks / tips for repairing them (things that regularly fail)

The logic board seems to come out easy enough... any replacement boards? Any other ideas for testing what the heck is wrong with it? (FYI. All switches are now non functioning with the exception of the door lock) Strangely enough, none of the other door switches now work either.... is there a main window relay that may have gone bad? Where could i find that bad boy?

Any help would be great! Thanks!

I don't have an answer but this will subscribe me to the thread. My drivers side front window will roll down anytime I want it to except when I need it to. Or it will roll down but not roll up. I can shut the LC off and sometimes it will work. Sometimes not. The passenger side front only goes up and down if I hold the button just right. The other windows are fine.

I have yet to dig into it, mostly because I don't know how to get the switch assembly out.

That window switch is expensive, I can get one for you for $420 shipped. Or get an aftermarket one off Ebay for $30, bet it will last you for a few years if not more.

Checked out all the answers that the search engine spat out and none of them fit what's going on here. Here's the symptoms:
Windows started acting erratically. Sometimes they work... sometimes they don't. If they didn't work, you slam the door.. boom they work again. The strange thing is this: my door lock actuators work fine. Nothing intermittent. They've always (and still) work fine.

I took the switch panel out and began testing individual rockers and switches. All appear in good condition. Since I was somewhat suspicious of the circuit board, I pulled the switch panel apart and took out the little rubber pad with the ferris touch pads and physically touched each contact and still no windows. I looked closely at the bare circuit board but there was nothing on it that showed any signs of damage. Door locks continue to work though. I even touched the window pads to the door lock contacts... door locks still work every time. That means that the rubber pad thingie works fine. It also tells me that the circuit board is also probably ok.

Tonight I also tested each of the wires coming out of the door for power. Oddly, I did not find any 12V power to the switches (and yes... I had the key in the "on" position and the door closed.) That leads me to believe that it may be a broken wire in the door?.? I'll try and dig into that this week, but that really depends on my time. I'll keep you posted on that finding.

Two other thoughts.... 1) Since I pulled out the switch panel and started testing it, I haven't had any intermittent window workings. It's remained dead from the first time I started investigating this. 2) Could I have missed some sort of window relay in my troubleshooting? Something that takes a signal from the master switch and activates the window motor? I saw a "Window switch relay" part advertised during some of my searches, but wasn't able to find anything like it in the FSM. Any thoughts or experiences would be helpful.

Could you send me a link for the $30 ebay unit you saw? I've searched and I can't find anything like that.

My bad, the listing I was looking for you has different part number 84820-60130. Have you looked for a used one through junk yard?

Check the wires in the rubber conduit between the door and kick panel. I had a broken wire there that caused the window to only go up if the door was closed.

Buy one from eBay. I have one and it's lasted me a couple of years already.

It was NOT the switch panel.... it WAS a broken wire inside the door hinge. :bang: Was able to splice it together and then put some silicone on some of the other worn sections of wiring to help them hold out a little longer.

Awesome. When I wired my little 14' Express boat I soldered the connections, put silicone on them, and then slid a piece if heat shrink over that. When I applied heat the silicone squished out and made a really nice, water proof connection.

Glad you found the problem and didn't spent $400 for a new switch!!! ;)

Glad I could help. Of course... I found the answer on MUD in a previous thread that had owner had similar symptoms.

My 99 LC started doing the EXACT same thing... I'll check out the wires at the door hinge. Thanks...
