Can you guy give me your opinions on Massey's rating system in his AZ Backcountry book? Figure a stock FJ80. By the way I think the book is excellent, I wish there was something like this when I was back east.

You can do his hardest rated trails in a stock 80. If your locked and have sliders it'll be like cheating:D , right, Whipp;) ?

Let me add a bit on info...how does it look if the wife get's "worried about the truck breaking"

I know, I know

Start her on some of the more scenic milder trails and build her confidence. My GF used to get worried on dirt roads and now encourages me to drive off a cliff...

Really, most of his trails are pretty mild. I've only run a few from that book, but the box canyon is pretty easy, mostly dirt road, only 1 step that looks worse than it is. Table Mesa on page 419 is a good training trail for her. El Oso to Edwards Park is nice, and if you skip the 3 mile option to the mines, she'll have no worries. We ran Telegraph Canyon in the rain back in December and it was pretty mild and very scenic.

I don't know what you're talking about...

It's a good book, and with 157 trails, covers a lot of the state. It has trails that vary from graded dirt roads to somewhat, but not too, challenging trails. It also has sections about the history of AZ, wild life, and plant life of AZ.
