Reluctantly listing (sale or trade) my 4th Gen 4runner with the 1GR-FE V6 (I know, but I wanted the part time 4WD that the V8 doesn’t have). I didn’t think I’d like it this much but it’s become one of my favorite non-LC Toyotas, and is a fantastically solid daily driver and weekend overland rig. Only reason I’m making this post: it just doesn’t have the tow capacity I need from a truck. Pulling my LS430 show car on a trailer just isn’t an option with this, so I’m looking for a tundra or sequoia.

I purchased this truck in either late ‘22 or early ‘23 from the previous owner who used it as his daily as well as the family adventure vehicle. Originally a Nevada truck, it saw a lot of national park adventures as shown by the myriad of NPS stickers on the rear hatch. Along with that, the PO spared no expense with any of the maintenance as per the huge folder of receipts dating back to I think 2019, maybe earlier. I’m not sure the exact date but within the last couple years the engine was gone through and got new seals throughout, and timing chain guides were found to be in good shape so there’s no chain rattle to be found. The motor doesn’t smoke or consume oil, 4WD engages confidently, ATRAC works as it should, and no lights on the dash.

In 2021, the frame was professionally stripped, cavity waxed, and coated, and I’ve made a habit of coating the underside of all my trucks with fluid film every November, which was the case for this as well. That said, while it’s pretty clean for an east coast 4runner and doesn’t have rust in the normal places ( there is surface rust in a few places (worst being the skid plate and crossmember from off-roading, but I had planned to do aftermarket skid plates so I never worried about it). The body is neither the best nor the worst; lots of rock chips on the hood, the front bumper doesn’t match (might get around to paint matching it soon) as I traded it for the steel bumper that came with the truck, and the previous owner had some sort of incident with the drivers rear door that resulted in a less-than-professional repair. But its color matched so I never did anything about it. The paint is covered in pin stripes, thanks to the notorious Rhododendrons of Canaan Loop lol. Again, it was meant to be maintained, I have another vehicle to be meticulous about when it comes to looks, haha.

As far as modifications go, it has a Dobinsons lift, though I’m not 100% on which springs. It seems to handle the weight well and I was told it was the heaviest 2.5” lift, but I feel like other built out 4th gen’s sit higher, so maybe or maybe not. Also has Powerstop front calipers with EBC pads, SPC upper control arms, and extended sway bar end links. The control arms need new UBJs (surprise, they squeak) which I’ve already ordered, so an alignment is up next. It sits on 265/75/17 General Grabber ATs, with probably between 65-75% tread, wrapped around procomp wheels, all with a matching spare. Up top is a Prinsu roof rack with a harbor freight hard case and an Ironman awning (and awning room, I’d like to keep these but can negotiate), and lower armor is a True North Fab high clearance bumper and tire carrier, as well as a set of Victory 4x4 sliders. There is a 38” white/amber light bar up top, two yellow pods on Rago Fab ditch brackets, and two 9” spots up front, all run to an auxbeam switch panel.

Interior is in good shape, albeit in need of a cleaning which I’ll have done before showing the truck. The cover for the 12v socket was broken when I got it, but everything functions as it should. Drivers seat has the typical Toyota lower bolster tear, but nothing too bad, maybe an inch or so in length. Hot heat and freezing AC. I replaced the factory JBL head unit with a CarPlay touch screen, and the factory speakers sound good so I didn’t bother upgrading them. I’m not sure if they’re factory or not actually, if it ain’t broke don’t fix it.

If you read this far, I’m primarily looking to trade for a 4x4 5.7 Tundra (no larger than 6.5ft bed). Doesn’t need to be perfect and mileage doesn’t matter, but I’d like to find a crew max if possible. I will also consider Sequoias and Land Cruisers (100 series, but if someone wants to give me a high mileage 200 I’d be over the moon haha), but my main hope is the tundra. Body damage and pinstriping doesn’t bother me at all, less to worry about when camping and exploring, I’d just like to find something as mechanically sound as my 4runner. Cash price is $13k, which I think is fair for a 4th gen in the rust belt that isn’t rotting out with 350k on it. I know everyone says it, but I really would get in this truck and feel confident driving it anywhere.

I’ll take better pictures soon and attach them to a Google drive. Best way to contact me is by text (410-570-5554) but I’ll be checking here as well. Thanks for reading my novel lol.
